Antiques help needed, any PHers in the know?

Hi guys n girls, seasons greetings etc!
I have inherited a couple of chinese/oriental vases with hand carved wooden stands, they are around 11" tall, any idea how to get a valuation for these? Apparently my grand father 'aquired' them during the second world war, along with some other bits and bobs from the Japs. I'll try and post some pics later if anyone can help!
regards and a Happy New Year to all

They sound like they maybe Satsuma vases from the early 20th Century (or the late Meiji period). These vary in quality and value enormously, many were relatively mass produced and can be found on Ebay for a few pounds. The bottom has rather fallen out of the Japanese ceramics market in recent years I'm afraid. As an example I sold a nice pair of late 19th century Satsuma vases of about 20in in height in 1998 for £1250. The same vases went into auction in 2004 and made £550. (There are exceptions to the rule for pieces by named artists like Ryozan and Meizan).
