Any one know off the top of their heads how much it is to text australia?

Got a friend out there at the moment who i've text a couple of times. I just don't want a nasty surprise at the end of the month.

Happy New Year to All.

It shouldn't cost you any more than your standard network rate.

It will cost your friend more to receive it.

As PoD says above - it'll be a 'local' cost to you, but a lot to her - assuming you are texting her UK mobile number.

If shes hired a mobile out there for the duration of her visit - then the costs are down to you alone.

She's got an Oz mobile.

So it should only cost me about 10p per text then.

Thats not too bad!

Nope, if you are texting a UK number that is roaming abroad then you will pay the UK rate and the recipient (on a UK network) will not pay to receive the message.

As you said the mobile is an Aus number then you will pay the international rate for SMS which will vary according to the network you are on in the UK. If you let me know the network you are sending from I will tell you the rate you are paying.

Happy New Year.

its a bloody rip off.

Im there at the moment and mobile phone companies are utter thieving bastards.

When you call them up to tell them you want international roaming, you can here them rubbing their hands together with glee.

Much better to get your mate to buy a Phone card and call you for 1 cent a minute.

BTW.

Im just about to go down to the harbour bridge for the New year celebs.
(we are staying virtually under the bridge at milsons point.) Temp is 25c at 11pm.

Happy new year to you PHERs.

Next time you go abroad get you phone unlocked first then in the case of Cyprus,

Buy a SO EASY card for £15 for that you get £3 of air time and of course your own new number then text messages to England cost 1p and phone calls to England cost 6p a min to landlines and 11p to mobiles (any net work).
The £3 lasts for 1 month and if you put £10 on it will then last for 12 months.
If i was to use my Orange network from Cyprus to England it costs 20p to recieve calls and 50p to make calls per minute.

Yes we are being ripped off here

Even better news, it looks like 30p is what you would pay if you were in Aus using your O2 'phone.

To send a message to an international 'phone number usually costs 20p on O2.

Rgds.
