Snow in the Alps

Off to Tignes in two weeks time. Good to hear it's coming down.
Any links for snow reports?
Just came back from Val D'isere two weeks ago, conditions were brilliant back then - but has been getting very icy and rocks are appearing now.
The best bet for snow reports is www.valdinet.com - it's written by an english guy living out there and it's really quite accurate. Other than that try www.snow-forecast.com
Beware Val D and Tignes are mentally expensive - you're talking 8 Euro's a pint!
Enjoy - i'm very very jealous!

Dump Alert!!
Gits! If it snows in Val D'isere then it sure as buggery has snowed in Tignes.

A new dump for a new year! Overnight, starting late yesterday evening, we have had 20cm of perfect snow fall in the town centre which is going to translate into who knows how much up top where it will have chucked it down – 30-40cm at least. This latest fall was getting needed - although conditions have been skiable the pistes were getting hard-packed to say the least.
There has been so much snow that the lifts have not opened first thing whilst snow clearing and avalanche blasting have gone on. Still that will all have changed in the next few hours - and in the next few days the New Year's crowds will have dispersed leaving plenty of wide open fun to be had!
Have a good 2006 !!

Give my love to Courcheval 1850. Bust myleg there last time I went there and am now banned by the Mrs.
Dont tell me things like that, I've found that i don't bounce as well as i get older. Seriously tho what a nightmare, breaking your leg and being banned! Still i reckon if you reach a certain age without some injuries you've been bloody lucky or lived a boring life. Show your scars with pride,(and invent some farfetched stories to go with them
) I will indeed give your love to Courcheval. Now which particular off piste double black run was it again??

Err......... I actually did it pissing about on a blue run.
. They had to send the guys up the mountain with the stretcher on a sledge to get me.
It was on the annual company ski trip for a plc that I was a director of at the time. The previous year another director dislocated his shoulder and two years later the Chairman lost an eye in a snowmobile crash and was so badly hurt he was off work for a year.
(All accidents at Courcheval or Meribel).
I don't think they have the ski trips any more.

I've just got back from Chamonix and the snow for the last week was perfect (very cold though with an average of about -10 every day). It did snow all last night but when we left early this morning, the temperature was up above freezing and it was chucking it down with rain. Roads were atrocious though and there was a very nasty pile up on the A40 southbound (somewhere south of Dijon) in the fog.
I'll be loading the car up with skiing gear, dogs and wife on the 14th and heading off down to La Mongie in the Pyrenees for a week. Skiing isn't as good as in the Alps, but its only 4 hrs drive away, has over 120km of pistes and there are generally never any queues for the lifts, so it would be rude no to, wouldn't it.

I was going the other way. Saw a silver car that was just wrecked. It looked as if it had gone under a lorry. Really sobering stuff.
Snow was lousy in Trois Vallees but it threw it down just as we were leaving. Went for a pizza in Aosta and got through the Mont Blanc tunnel to find hammering dumpage, meaning a 140 mile slip and slide back to the Tarentaise via Annecy. Mrs Roo not stoked.
