As i understand it upto about 32" LCD is better. Above that Plasma is the way to go.

Thats how I was sold it. Plasma doesnt come in sizes smaller than 37" either.

To me, the LCD picture is too sharp and plasma is more natural and softer. Jusy my opinion though.

Definitely Plasma , LCD still has a long way to go in terms of big screen to catch up.Whatever you do stay away from rear projection tellies, they suck.

I'm happy with Plasma. At 42" it seems to be the way to go.

Things are changing. The latest LCDs, especially the Philips 9830 models are as good as plasma and better in many areas, such as for use with PCs.

right then chaps, some advice needed.

I need 3 new TVs. 1 is the main lounge TV. Films/sport and not a lot else. Needs to be a decent size and was thinking 42" plasma.

2nd one for the bedroom. Was thinking 20" LCD? Doesnt need to be a huge size but match of the day needs to be viewable in bed. Oh, and for porn.

3rd one for the PS2 and bolted low down on the wall so its directly in front of the driving seat and wheel. Was thinking it doesnt need to be huge (26"?) but have heard LCDs for computer games may not be the best idea. Any thoughts?

I am also looking at a plasma/lcd. Thing is, I would want to be able to hook my laptop and PS2 up to the screen - does this mean I have to buy LCD?

LCD lasts a little longer. But these days, theres less in it between the two, than there was a few years ago.

Either way, speak to derestrictor. He's sorting me out with a 32" LCD on friday at an unbeatable price! Definitely the man to order from when you're ready to buy

I forgot to add.

For a neat installation , get a plasma with a separate tuner/control unit, so you can wall-mount your Plasma and only one cable runs from the display to the tuner/control unit tucked away with the rest of your gadgetry.
Wall mounting will look less neat if you had loads of cables hanging down from a Plasma display with integrated tuner and scart connections.
For best result, the cable from Plasma to tuner should be tucked away inside the wall cavity if you fancy some DIY.

Found this today... all "likely" and "plans", but still...

"The EU plans to impose a 14 per cent import duty on imports of larger LCD screens, leading pundits to forecast a huge hike in sticker prices. The tariff would be applied to all monitors that are not produced within the EU, which is the majority of monitors imported. LG manufactures some units in Wales, while Philips manufactures most of its units in the Far East. LCD DVI computer screens larger than 19 inch - monitors which often also can be used to watch television - are likely to be taxed. "

Whatever TV you by, make sure you have some decent cables to plug it into stuff.

Whenever I see plasma's in shops they always look st because they haven't got anything like a decent cable!

Little in it these days really.

For big stuff plasma still wins, the limitation is with the dot pitch you see.

For mid range classic consumer gear around 32" LCD is at an attractive price point.

I'd wait though and pick up a 1920x1080 progressive next year...

Good old EU.

I bet the Chinese government is proposing something similar.

Then again, maybe not.

Ordered the rickshaw yesterday; anyone else got one already?
