My Elise wont start

Took it to Goodwood with LOT on Saturday, overfilled it with oil and now the engines turning but not firing

Another trip to Miles. The worst part is that this appears to be my fault and not mechanical failure. Twat.

Before you spend any money, check the dizzy to ensure the rotor arm is turning. Then hook out the spark plugs, clean them using wd40, get rid of the excess oil on them. Then drain some oil. This is all simple and easy so try that then if that fails take it to an expert.

I knew a guy who filled up his Renault 5 turbo with oil. He actually put in enough oil to "brim" it at the filler on top the engine. Didnt last long.

sometimes the lambda and cat can be resurected by a good run. Some good hot exhaust gasses will "burn off" the film of oil. Sometimes you wont be so lucky.

Good Luck!

I hope I am lucky. If the sensors and cat need replacing, any guesses as to what the bill will be? I am guessing it might be a "sell the car to pay for it" bill?

By a good run...better first use one of these to clear all the lasers and scamera's on that road before you take a good run or you can get the points you don't want... (sorry gooby)

Shnozz, bad luck matey... Don't panic about the cat + lambda sensors, cost wise they won't be a lot (maybe £125 plus fitting) and anyway, stick on a lambda sensor + de cat pipe for the time being... Then get it fixed once you have a cat..

If you need one matey, let me know as I have a de cat pipe + gaskets sat in the shed at the moment. I will be in Bishops Waltham Friday afternoon/early evening if you want to borrow them?

Cheers, MB

Mark, sorry about the delay in replying but I thought I would try a few things before wasting your time. I have got the car running now. Who knows what the emissions are doing though. Its a case of testing them at a mates garage in the new year to see if the cat/lamba sensor is screwed. The plugs were filthy and so cleaned them up, air filter will be cleaned once I can get a cleaning kit. Going to try and give it some welly with a tankfull of optimax and some injector cleaner and see if it sorts itself out.

Incidentally, how did you find the CRP? I wouldnt mind making the effort to stick on a cat for MOT time if it makes a decent performance difference, but my main fear is that it will increase DBs too much for track days.

PS - good to meet you finally at Goodwood

I haven't had the de cat on yet. I have a new exhaust to fit in the New Year and an MoT beforehand, so I will give it a go after that. I agree about the track days, but I suppose ultimately it's only 6 bolts and the under tray to fit....

Let me know if I can be of assistance with anything though.

Chars,
