Had to go to Andover and did my best to get back for Top Gear. Rush in at 8.05 to find Snooker?

Snooker is more important than top gear?

I really cant wait for this year to end

I going someware to mumble and be generally grumpy. Oh this looks like fun, I will do the insurance papers for the guy that pulled out on my wife.

You obviously didn't listen last week when JC sarcastically mentioned that he was being replaced by snooker... Oh well - 12 days of the year to go.

Except when you get those damned failed recordings. And when live pause stops working. B*******. You'd think that given how long its been out they would have fixed these bugs by now.

I have never had a failed recording - seriously. Maybe I have just been luck. I do panic when my 20 month old daughter steals and hides the smartcard though!

Mine was fine for about 2-3 months, then we went away for a weekend, came back and found we had a lots of failed recordings. To be fair to Sky, they suggested a full system reset, and since then I think I have only had the odd failed recording (maybe once a month), nothing too worrying.

The real problems started with the software upgrade they did about 3 months back. First the live pause failed (nothing would happen when you press pause or rewind for a few seconds, then the box would freeze up and need to be turned off) and even doing a full system reset would only fix it for a few days before it stopped again. I had an engineer booked to come look at it but the day before the engineer was due to come the box was fine so I cancelled the visit. We went away on holiday and came back two weeks later to find that the symptoms had changed somewhat (suggesting another software change). Now the live pause still fails intermittantly, but then it seems to fix itself within a day or two (without me doing a reset). I suspect the reason for this is the box is sometimes rebooting itself while in standby, mainly because it sometimes reboots itself while we're watching it! It just turns off, and won't turn back on for about 60 seconds, which from my experience with their tech support means its rebooting.

I haven't called tech support since I've returned from holiday mainly because these symptoms are pretty sporadic so I haven't spent enough time logging its behaviour and seeing if theres any pattern. At the moment if I call tech support they'll just ask me to reset the box and if that doesn't work, they'll just swap it for a new one. I'd rather save the swap for closer to the end of my one year warranty. Live pause isn't a feature I use very often so if its not working its not the end of the world for me. If I started getting failed recordings again, that would be problem and I'd be asking for a new box ASAP.

I have a friend who's had Sky+ for much longer than me (about 18 months). His experience is a little different to mine. His box was fine (no failed recordings at all) until they did the software upgrade about 3 months back. Then he got the same problems with live pause as I have and as far as I am aware the problem hasn't gone away. If your box is ok at the moment then i would suggest you enjoy it. You never know what issues the next software upgrade will bring.
