Just watching "Demolition" on C4 about the ugliest buildings in the UK that we,the public would like to demolish,....buildings that get us down, that look ugly, that dont fit in,that even want to make us move.

It is interesting to note that since the war we have built more buildings than the previous thousand years and boy have we made some mistakes.

I feel the architecture of the 60's & 70's was the worst time and the hideous design of precast grey, dismal ,depressing ,concrete towers and carparks that sprung up all over the place blight british cities and towns,OK things have improved since then but ive got the feeling with the latest designs we are falling into a "glass era" and are on the verge of going backwards again.

The worst one ive seen is Westgate house in Newcastle, ive only seen it on TV and i hate it from the point of view how it detracts from the surrounding buildings, they even had the nerve to adjoin it to an old stone building,i dont even live there and i hate it.
What is the building that you hate the most and would like to see demolished?.

The Palace of Westminster, preferably during a particularly well attended session.

That vaguely triangular, derelict building on the "roundabout" at the south end of Westminster Bridge (from the previews I suspect its on the programme. though I didn't watch it); closely followed by the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre (and the Heygate Estate for good measure)

The new Bull Ring Selfridges in Birmingham
Charing Cross station
The MI6 HQ building

I think it was on the program, was it the old GLC headquarters,if it is the one your right it is a eyesore.
The I-mex (sp) on Bournemouth seafront is poor aswell, when the local councils give us such a hard time with planning how they hell can the allow some of these sights?

I don't know if it was ever the GLC HQ, its certainly v close to County Hall which obviously was for a long time, might have been part of it or an annex I guess. Basically its sat between Tommy's (no picture itself frankly) County Hall, and the quite groovy international bit of Waterloo.

AGREE!!!!!!

The achitect was a man name Pooley, and the council office in Aylesbury is known as 'Pooleys gooley'.

He also designed the bucks college in High Wycombe, another 60's disaster that actually IS due for demolition to become a Tescos. (suprise, suprise)

Knock it down, its more out of place than Charles Kennedy.

Dear sirs,
Was settling down to enjoy our program on demolishing buildings,
when it suddenly finished.

I thought from the TV Times web-site that following my vote, I could relax in front of the telly' tonight, and watch confidentally whilst the bus staion was knocked down with a big digger machine!

sorry bout' pic, nearest to hand

I shall now refrain from, paying TV licence untill it is knocked down to my satisfaction,
and that of my children, to whom I promised.

good day to you sirs

Thamesmead in South east London. Think of the film A Clockwork Orange and it's setting, and it's almost exactly the same.

The rumour is that they are designed to be resistant to a nuclear attack in some way, and the duck pond out the back is actually part of some system for washing fallout off people or something... don't know how true it is, but the buildings certainly look the part They do at least look like buildings, though, not like that... thing... that FWD posted...
