What is the best exhaust and air box to have fitted? 111R
Discussion
Several issues here: I will try to cover them:
1) The ecu is not programmable and you won't be ably to alter the changeover point. However this has been set for optimal power / torque. Lowering it will produce a serious powere dip.
2) Induction kits make noise, but despite the hype, probably do not realise more than 1 -3 bhp extra. Depends whether you want induction noise. Popular choices - ITG maxogen, Pipercross ?viper (both over £300) , Hurricane (I think this will soon be available for the toyota engine soon if not already.
3) Rear exhaust - Larini seems popular, nice sound. Otherwise Janspeed. Loads of threads and sound clips if you do a search. Again don't expect massive power gains. Main benefit is over 10 kg weight saved and a great sound.
4) Sports cat - not really helpful on some of the k series engines. For the toyota engine, may liberate a few bhp. Larini claim some fairly optimistic figures - 8-12 bhp for sports cat and exhaust. I would be really surprised. However, midrange torque may be noticeably better according to a few people.
If you are expecting massive differences, you will likely be disappointed. If you want more sound etc and the car "feeling quicker", then a great mod. Just bear in mind that you won't see change from nearly a grand all in. (excluding fitting etc.)

Cheers mate, I want the sound and experience more than just power so for me its a must. Is there anywhere you can recommend to get a Larini exhaust fitted? So I guess on the power side the only real way of improving it would be to go for a SuperCharger or Turbo upgrade? which is a lot of money and you never see it back on resale.
I just can't wait to get up early in April/May time on a Sunday morning and take the long country lane route to the coast, through the new forest and stopping for breakfast before a whole day of roof down fun!! roll on Spring time!

The car is plenty quick already. Drive it for at least a year before thinking about forced induction. Superchargers would be a better bet for the 111r - established conversion on the exige, soon to be seen on an elise near you no doubt. Turbo's - lag etc. A conversion was done apparently on two cars in New Zealand and they lunched their engines - see thread on "bulletproof toyota engines" - comment by Simon Scuffham.
If you are thinking of Sunday morning runs through the New Forest, keep an eye out for any BoLOCs meets that are posted. Its just an informal group of Lotus owners, who gt together on a fairly regular basis, to go for a blast, and then stop for B'fast and a chat.
As to Exhausts, its pretty much personnel taste. The Larini has a big following on here, as there was a recent group buy. The 111T owners got theirs about a month ago I think. Janspeed have just released a new exhaust for the 111R, their old one did sound a bit "Chav", and build quality was suspect in some instances. Very little is known about the new one, but what has been said seems encouraging.
Induction, is pretty much as Shangani says, but again, a lot is down to personnel taste.....as well as money.

I've been thru a number of different systems on my 111R but can totally recommend what I've ended up with:
- ITG Induction system - pricy but a cut about the rest:
- Larini Sports zorst. Lovely sound but not way to noisy when cruising, and does not resonate like most others do.
- Larini Sports Cat - amazed at the difference this has made, engine just revs so much easier and has improved the fuel economy as well.
