I just got a spam [nothing to do with PH] inviting me [sort of] to join a forum dedicated to the above.

Anyone know what such a practitioner does?

I only quickly read the email but another arrived a little later to say that membership should only be granted to people who had a legitimate need to access. Which got me thinking.. WTF is this all about?

No - It seems to have come from a pukka source. 'Tis a bit strange.

I understand its interrogating data from mobile phones especially those from the criminal element. You can gain a lot of evidence I've been told. And paid well although you'll need to keep a low profile!

I got the same e-mail too, apparently from a genuine plod-related site of which i'm a member though not "in the trade" so to speak..

Seems a rather strange thing to be sending out to all & sundry...
