So why is it that this 'Glasses' guide is only for the trade?? I thought we lived in an open society.

Glass's have their own website. For £2.50 you can have a valuation and it allows you to include all the options.

A word of warning is that you will find that the guides in the showroom show a different amount. If possible get someone to give you a valuation from CAP. They are not quite as kind as Glass's and will give you a better idea of what you are likely to get as a trade in value at a dealer.

If my customers knew how much we paid for a product they'd want to buy it for that price, not one that included a profit. Supermarkets and shops don't let you see what they paid, so why should car dealers?

Seems fair enough. Most things have a trade or wholesale price and a retail price.

...and a trade in price and a Glass' valuation

I always thought that Glass' guide was there to enable the garage to say, 'it is only worth £50, but I'll give you £75 trade in'.

Certainly, Glass' guide valuations have always made me chuckle at least, garages have always shown me the relevant page to back up their claims so it doesn't seem so secretive.
