Thanks for that ...

Friday is my last day until 10/01/06 and the plan is not to take the Gooseberry with me so I'll prolly come back to another thousand or so pieces of crap.

Thats my preferred method, especially now that we have an inbox limit that I hit every couple of weeks, just remember to clear out deleted items as well!

I average about 300-400 emails a day.

I have some rather aggressive rules to deal with an awful lot of it.

I don't get as many as you daily, (apprx 200 or so) mainly trying to sell me Pxnis pills, imitation R'olex and other crap. Being the computer ignoramus that I am, how do I set up rules to avoid this junk. The senders of this stuff deliberately misspell the key words in the titles, so that getting the system rules to ignore certain words only works to a small degree. Is there a more foolproof way?

Yes - I've seen some users with over eleven thousand in each the inbox, deleted items and sent items.

From an IT perspective you should be shot sir!

I'm on 5 very active email lists & don't much spam (av. 2 a day), my back up Hotmail is now web only based & still gets av. 5 spams a day

I have 9,185 unread (from when I'm away & Pc's down ) & 36,464 read mails on OE, so this is bad then ?

The worst I've seen was over one hundred thousand - which attempted to crash our mail server - caused by someone setting an auto forward to an address that wasn't valid. It kept trying to send everything that came into the mailbox including the rejection notifications that it was receiving.

So compared to that you aren't too bad.

While I was a trainee, one of the partners I sat with had around 10,000 unread emails. When IT Support called him to tell him that his mailbox was so full, he wouldn't be receiving any emails, he replied "what's an email?". I think he meant it too

P.S. When's the December 2005 report for Saxon coming out?

I wish I'd never got it. It may end up at the bottom of a pint of lager sometime over the festive period.
