The fee charged by the Insurance company amounts to £251.
The fee charged by the broker is over £700.
(Legal fees of £35 p.a. are included).

Could someone enlighten me as to how this massive difference is reached?

I'm an insurance broker and I wish we could work to those margins.

I'll try and dig it up - have to be for tomorrow, info at home.
What is the tax charge for?
(I know it's tax but what type!!)
Pretty disgusting really.
As you say, that kind of margin is astounding.

I'm guessing the first figure is a missprint, £251 ?

Unless your (A) 123 years young, (B) the car is kept in a palace with armed guards & (C) you've limited the milage to two miles a year, that is

What is the tax charge for?

>> Insurance premium tax (IPT). Brokers fees are not subject to VAT or IPT. So if you know the tax you know exactly how much the insurer is receiving. IPT is 5%.
