I broke my specs. They're going to cost as much to repair as a new pair, so I'm going to have a new pair.

Will the household insurance be likely to pay out for specs as "valuables"?

It's not worth claiming. Your excess will probably be nearly as much as the cost of the specs. Besides, how will you see to fill the form in

My excess is 50 quid, which is far below the cost of the specs (titanium Rodenstocks).

I'm going to give it a go.

The very worst they can do is say "no".

Result!

They're going to pay!

Lessons:

1. You broke your specs at home, OK?
2. They're worth exactly what you paid for them 2 years ago.
3. Paying a £60 excess on a £250 repair is worth it.
