Bear with me here for a second i was in bed and i found myself sleeping as usual in a foetal position, but when i stretched out my aging bones ached a bit as i stretched. This got me thinking. A child can not stretch out fully in the womb therefore tendons must grow to a predetermined length to allow appropriate range of motion of the joints when the offspring is born. No animal could ever have survived long enough in the foetal stance to evolve, even horses for example are in a very un-natural position in the womb but stretch out and can stand as soon as they are born. Thus dictating an underlying design, or no animal would ever have stood up! I have other theories but this is infact the sanest. (you should here my ones on the Japanese!)

Something to do with cold or harsh sunlight, there is a theory around for that. Not sure how that equates to a life or death situation which is needed for selection (maybe its another kind of selection, who knows).

Perhaps the muscles that operate the tendons are what accomodate the lengths?

No, No. This is a little contraversial so i appologise in advance.

Describe a Japanese person to a western child who has never seen one ( I grew up in Suffolk) and most of the phrases used would be comparable to the hollywood stereotype alien, if diluted a little.
Shorter than an average westerner, darker skinned (although admitedly not green), large dark eyes and great with technology etc...

Humpback theory. Somewhere in the distant past an alien while on a sightseeing visit got jiggy with a human and started a whole new race! And for this we should be thankful, Lucy Lu etc.

(This is meant to be light hearted, and does fall over a little on close examination!)

No you haven't. You've simply noticed that evolution has led to young that have long enough tendons. Those that didn't wouldn't have been able to stand and thus wouldn't have survived long enough to pass this trait on to the next generation.

The most overwhelming evidence against intentional design is that testicles are on the outside. That and the fact that the oesophagus and trachea are so close together as to allow choking to occur. Oh, and the appendix.

And vagina, urethra and anus being so close together, unless you subscribe to the six-pack theory.

They need to be cooler than body temp to work properly. So men with internal nuts would not breed so well and die out, leaving just the externally-nutted.

'Embryology recapitulates phyllogeny'... The appendix is a leftover throwback to our grass-eating ancestors (now called Homo friendsoftheearthus). As embryos we also have - briefly - tails and gills.

Exactly my point - if I could design a human, I'd design the testes to function at body temperature.

Thats a fallacy I'm afraid, a 19th century theory (maybe very early 20th?) that held that embryos went through the development phases of other lower orders of the animal kingdom before growing to become humans. The arguement is convincing but is based on appearance rather than the actual development that's occuring.

Embryos dont have gills at any point I'm afraid, neither do they grow tails, although they may appear to have both at some stages of development it just looks that way.

Edited to add:

This appears to be called "recapitulation theory". Wiki link below.

I dunno, back then they would be unheated showers. They wouldn't be outside for long!

Yes, but it would have been in Africa where a cold shower might well be quite refreshing.
