As most people are probably aware some firms are not letting staff put up Christmas trees or decorations for fear of upsetting the ethnic majority. It has now moved on a step further, at this time of year I foil print DVD & VHS sleeve inserts for a local business that has filmed school nativity's at Christmas time. He placed his order with me this year for one play only, yes you have guessed it some schools are not doing a play this year as they do not want to chance upsetting other cultures. What about upsetting the people who have had this tradition for as long as I can remember. Yet another intrusion into our culture, but I suppose that doesn't matter as long as no one else is offended! There will be upset in this country because our own way of life is under siege. I really do not think the majority of other cultures are really that bothered. Live & let live.

The problem here is not the different cultures, or those practising them.

It is 1) the tiny proportion of these people who feel aggrieved, and rather than simply not attending, decide to be "aggrieved" and cause as much trouble as possible, and 2) the halfwit left councillors who pander to these idiots believing it will make them popular

Sad state of the country I’m afraid.

We were not allowed toddlers on our knees for the school nativity play due to “health and safety reasons” I find that a bit odd given I can do this when I fly several thousand miles at over 300 miles per hour every year when we go on holiday.

We also had a 5 minute talk before the play started where we were told the evacuation procedure which would be required in the event of fire or bombing. Half way through the performance the fire alarm started. I thought it was likely to be a bomb given that there were a load of people at the front who looked like Al Qaeda members. It turned out I was wrong on two counts…..

1) It wasn’t a bomb, someone had left the urn on and the steam had got to the smoke dectector
2) They weren’t terrorists at the front, they were shepherds

it's a case of the allegedly offended ethnic cgroups actually not giving a hoot, and the ever so apologetic councillers putting their oar in where it is not required.

I hear you !!

Infuriates me as well !!!!

I would never dream of going to another country expecting them to change their traditions just because I am there.

You move somewhere, you adopt their culture......if you don't like it or get offended by it.....don't stay......

How much more simple could it be ???

I wouldn't go as far as saying "you adopt their culture", as I'm sure you wouldn't want to give up yours if you moved to another country.

Do you not mean: you move somewhere, you show respect and tolerance for their culture?

only guessing here, I might be wrong

Bingo.

It is remarkable how many non Christians embrace the log of yule, it is an uncommonly fine excuse for an unavoidably lairy, sate sponsored p1ss up against which only very short people might object.

To these people, I say cast them into The Irish Sea, to everyone else, I'll have another one of those ineffectual 250cl bottles of bierre Francaise.

And a packet of Monster Munch.

As a non-Christian, I find your use of the word "Christmas" offensive and would be grateful if you could kindly amend your post so that it refers to "Winter Celebration" in the alternative.

Some of you may remember my post about the word "Christmas" being allegedly offensive this time last year. Well, you'll no doubt be pleased to know that my niece & nephew's school (in predominantly white, middle-class, leafy Kenilworth) had their "Winter Fair" last Friday. Unbelievable.

Yes you are right, I could have worded it better. Written in rage !!

However, if I wanted to keep my culture, I wouldn't have moved in the first place !!
If I chose to move to another country, I would like to think that I would know I had to adopt a new culture and also the fact that I had no right to complain about it. IMO, I would understand this from the start.

If you had a rule at your house where you had to take your shoes off before you came in, and I knew that before I arrived, what right would I have to be offended by it when I got there ??

You would have every right to be offended. But, if you want to come into my house you either take your shoes off, or you get the out.

If only the government took that stance

On a lighter note - the wife does have that rule in our house, and I get argy-bargy everytime I forget.

While ever people sit around on their posteriors and whinge about these things, nothing will get done. Councillors and MPs will think they are doing the "right" thing (i.e. obtain most votes). Write to your local councillor, write to the head of your local council, write to your M.P. and write to your local paper. *Then* you can whinge.

Bang on the nail andy (and DeR)!

My best mates are both Asian and they celebrate Christmas as much as I do. Hell, one of them's taking his kids to Lapland to see Santa and both will be round my mum's for Christmas Lunch.

Offended my arse!

Merry Christmas one and all

Bang on Der. My family are Buddhist (orig from Sri Lanka).

There's still Christmas trees, people round for drinks, cards, presents, getting pi55ed on the day, going to the village carol service etc etc.

This sort of pre-emptive PC rubbih does more harm to minorities and the way that they are perceived than good, trust me.

2 of my offspring go to a nice CofE primary school, they still sing hymns and say prayers at assembly. Whats more they dared to call their end-of-year jumble sale the Christmas Fair..

Incidentally CofE schools accept children of all colour and creed not just Christians..

However it won't be long before Bliar or one of his tw@t cronies get up on a rickety soapbox and ban it..

It is no wonder that scum like the BNP are getting so much support these days
