Many electrical chains wont price match cameras/TV's etc which are advertised on the net, but have policies which allow them to price match other retailers which have shops on the street.

Which stores (chain stores preferably) that are based on the street have the cheapest prices?

If its a TV you want, speak to Derestrictor.

He does sell televisions and not sweets, as some people think.

I thought he had a sweet shop!

I'm in the market for a 32" or 37" LCD - John Lewis offer 5 years guarantee and a pricematch with 'real' shops. Some of the stories of flat tv's going wrong have leant me towards the free guarantee even if it is a bit dearer than online.

The chances of a flat panel going tits up are lower than a limbo dancing isotope.

Unfortunately, I don't do overpriced whicker baskets made by enslaved Guatamalen pygmie folk.

So....do you buy milk at your village shop or Tesco's?

Then you go cry in your coffee when it closes down and you can't buy your late night jazz mags.

Honestly, we've got a PH-er here with his own business, which he built up from nowt, and yet you'd willingly go buy it from a shed?

As Mr T once remarked "I pity the fool".

I would recommed Derestrictor! great price and excellent service when i got my flat screen, will be buying my next screen from him.

"Oh. That's a shame. I was looking for a specific whicker basket that was made by enslaved Guatamalen pygmie folk".

"Marrian? Marrian! Do we have any overpriced whicker baskets made by enslaved Guatamalen pygmie folk?"

Strangely Greg, there is no rule that says you have to buy from a from a PHer, although it would of course swing the balance in a close race. I'm sure that if *you* sold TVs he wouldn't buy one from you for 4p given that outburst. Max made a perfectly fair point, so I suggest you go and work off your pique kicking a ball on a playing field, or punching brick walls.

Right. I remarked that I thought JL might be a better bet than online. Even if it costs a few quid more there is the long guarantee. That's what I said - not 'don't buy from DER' or 'buy from a large shop because they are better than a PH'ers shop'. Until the post above mine I didn't even know the chap sold TVs!

I always use local shops when I can - right down to using the 'village' petrol station which probably adds about £10 a month to my fuel bill. I don't want tesco ruling the world either!

Have a re-read of my post and look at what I was saying. The chap was asking about chain stores Vs Online purchases and I responded!!

OK, ball duly kicked.

I'm not saying you MUST buy from anybody in particular, you can buy tellies from wherever you bloody like.

But, in my experience:

My Sony CRT was £500 dearer in the Sony Centre than what Simon charged me. Also, after a few days, the VCR I bought went tits up. DeR sent me another IMMEDIATELY. No "Return the old one, then we'll send you a replacement". No questions asked. My ex in laws bought an all in one system from DeR, and he came down personally and made it multi region.

Thats what I call service.

Is that okay, Simpo? I do hope so.

I buy my milk in Tesco's because it's cheaper and normally has a longer shelf life because it comes down a better supply chain, and I download my porn for free off the tinternet thingie, oh yes and if I really feel the urge to crack one off the wrist and BT have all gone home I nip down the local village shop oooooops it's now a tescos local and open 24/7 where as when Mr Patel had it, it was only open 6 til 10 . Bad choice in comparrisons Greg but I get what you're saying

Oh yes and I'd also vote for using Der' on these things as he won't sell you a lemon and will do it for a fair price, rather than a spotty 14 year old working in a shed who really won't give a toss, there are certain purchases that require peace of mind when making and I'd say big tellies are amongst them, and Der' will offer that, otherwise we'd all just slaughter him online Oh yes but I don't need peace of mind with my milk
