the most pointless episode of Top Gear ever....

apologies if this has been done but I am venting my spleen....what was the point? 35 minutes of the bugatti saved only by the comedy flying antics of hammond and may. Countless shots of the "bhp-o-meter" going round to 1000. wooooo. a brief chat with Mansell ruined by CLarksons bragging about the Bugatti. One is an ex world champion in a single seater, the other a fat journo with zilch racing experience! Mansell could have talked about GP, GP Masters or any racing subject for hours but it was all wasted. His insight into modern F1 would have been good to hear but no, more nonsense about Clarksons bugatti.
they should get rid of clarkson asao. his "humour" is dragging down the series. He is not funny and is relying on cheap shots and easy jokes to get a laugh.

Completely disagree. It was another hour of splendid entertainment for petrolheads. How could it have been better? (ok, a few too many shots of power-o-meters. That wasted a good 20 secs overall.
Regarding Mansell. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Mansell fan. But let me assure you, he wouldn't have said anything interesting. He was always the most exciting of racers on the track, and the most boring off it. Trust me, you wouldn't sit through hours of listening to Mansell, and if you did you'd realise that what he said was riddled with mistakes and full of his very own unique outlook or aspect on life. It would differ greatly from the recollections of everyone else who was there!
If you get rid of Clarkson, you get rid of the programme. Did you watch Fifth Gear on Monday night? For me, 8pm of a Sunday evening is a must, but I rarely remember fifth gear is on. If we do watch it, we sit there watching a painful lesson on how boring everyday mundane motoring programmes are.
I say compare the viewing figures between the 2 progs. That'll tell you all you need to know.
I say there hasn't been a better motring prog than Top Gear, particularly the current series. I don't know the viewing figures but I reckon they'll back me up. I reckon many of us now know people who aren't interested in cars yet the watch the prog.
I'll be willing to wager that you'll probably never see another car programme like TG in your lifetime. If you do it'll be following the TG script. I reckon in time you'll look back on TG and realise you were wrong.
Unless you liked the the original format of Chris Goffey and Willy Woolard. I mean I quite did, but the prog now is night and day better.
Ckarkson is the highest paid motor journo for a good reason. He's the best. Outside of the States anyway.

Oh for crying out loud - its entertainment and I am pretty sure that you have an option here - you could of course change the channel or even turn off the TV. Its not compulsory and people wont berate you just because you dont want to watch it....
So why bother watching it in the first place? If you dont like Clarkson then I might suggest that watching TopGear isnt the best course of action.
But, criticism of TG is fair enough - its gone broadbase rather than specific over the years. This has proven to be a ratings winner rather than looser. The old very technical stuff from 10 years or more, is very dry and unless you are love cars - completely unwatchable. My wife and even my sister love watching TG which is an excellent indication that its appeal is broader than it was before.
But, simple point - you dont like it, dont watch it..... seems simple to me...

Yep
It has reached it's peak in the current series, no more caravan conkers and such nonsense, and every programme has been a gem.
Even my wife likes Top Gear
Do you recall perhaps a year ago, every Monday mornign there'd be a post about how rubbish Top Gear is!? Isn't it a compliemtn, that has completely gone and now every post is "how ace is Top Gear" (except numb nuts above. yes yes everyone's allowed their opinion but yours is just rubbish. yes yes i know that's me being an arse but...oh hang on, this IS a motoring website isn't it?!)
i must admit i dont make an effort to watch it, but it was either that or the sports personality of the year thing whlst i did my ironing this sunday evening!.....
someone touched on the point about the bugatti, yes it goes very fast, i could have guessed that when it was first revelaed back in oh, 2002?!? what i would have liked to know was the materials used, the design and how 10001bhp is controlled etc but Clarkson doesnt know about any of that thuus had to play the "its got a lot of power whilst making orgasm noises" card. I think Mansell would have been quite interesting and the Marcos feature was the same as the Ford Focus ST feature but with a different car. lots of powerslides, lots of "oohs" and no depth.
Top Gear may get high viewing figures but that doesnt mean its any good, just like McDonalds sell millions of Big Macs each day!
anyway i will stop, sorry for berating the only motoring programme on televsion which bears any resemblance to our interst in cars. Ironically, the only thing i could think if after the programme was how i go about getting a PPL!!

I'd have liked a few more facts about the Veyron, and some shots of the inside. I dunno if that makes me boring. To be honest, the whole 'race' thing in this case was superfluous, as there are very few places on his route he could actually have done 250mph he may as well have been in a Nissan Micra. They'd have been better having a much more in-depth feature on the Veyron and ditch the race altogether.

PS mansell IS the worlds most boring man!
From what I understand, give him a few beers and he is a riot. He has so many stories and anecdotes he can keep a room amused for hours. BUT, most are bluer than a Jim Davison act and really not something that can be broadcast, never mind after the watershed.....
As a result he is just never allowed to say much, or he keeps his tongue in check - all of which makes him seem boring and dull as ditchwater... which is a shame.
Schummaker - now he is boring......
