My memories starting to piss me off recently - it's never been great (except for irrelevant facts) but of late I'm sure it's getting worse.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not soiling myself or going to the wrong house in the evenings - just forgetting things I really shouldn't.

Any particular vitamin / mineral good for this?

Oh, and I'm quite prepared for the barrage of hilarity this thread may have started!

Omega 3 is meant to be good for brain function - no idea if it works though!

Well I'm sure I used to know...

Practice will help. Think of the brain as a muscle; it needs exercise.

Then I'd go with racylady's suggestion, eat more oily fish.

Eat plenty of fish, it does work, I have a truly pony memory, but the odd tin of sardines/pilchards etc, plus having anchovies on Pizzas, and a decent bit of fresh fish for dinner (Sling a bit of Bass or Trout under the grill) has helped.

Now what was I saying?

green tea is supposed to be good, as are things like blueberries and pretty much anything with lots of antioxidants. Lots of fresh fruit and veg.

This dodgy new age site lists some others like ginko biloba and others at the bottom along with some other sensible tips

You're looking at it from the wrong angle. Vitamins and Minerals will only provide a limited amount of use for brain function. All cognitive function is controlled by hormones, the most prevalent being (in the case of cognitive function), Pregnenolone. Reduced levels of Pregnenolone are indicated in most serious memory disorders (Alzheimers, etc) aong with many other ailments where the brain is working at reduced or low capacity, such as Parkinson's, etc.
However, as a matter of course you should be eating more fatty fish, such as Salmon, Mackerel, etc.
Also, what's your alcohol consumption like???
Just my 2p !

Gingko Biloba (a herbal thing) might also help. Supposed to be very good for memory etc.

And lots of water and exercise!

Do any of the herbal-style 'remedies' actually work? Are they not just ground up shrubbery given names by randomly jumbling letters together? "Gingko Biloba" for example - I'm sure there's some of that in my shampoo?

Well, lots of water and exercise does help, but since I don't drink enough water or get enough exercise I'm not in a position to pontificate...
And the herbs are going to work to a certain extent, but the brain is ultimately controlled by hormones (Pregnenolone mostly) so that's always a good starting point

Vitamin B (complex) is supposed to be good for increasing the brains function.

I was always told fish was the best, not sure why though (probably got the same vitamins in it)

Why can't we get prgnenolone tablets then? Or will we grow breasts?

My mother has a form of dementia; after several tests the doctors said there was something she could have but it wasn't worth it.

Why wasn't it worth it? Was it something that should have been taken earlier to have been of benefit?

I can't remember the exact reason but it made sense to me at the time (QED!!!)

I think it was side-effects of nausea which would increase the chances of her falling over.
