How to set up a satelite dish ???? help
Discussion
I am going a bit mad trying to set up a "free view" satelite dish with a motor next to my house. I have got the angles right - longatude, latitude and elevation - so far so good..... but do you aim the dish due South to begin with, then let the motor find the satelite you want, or the other way round ????
Help........
Help........
Right , you need to have the the dish tracking the arc where all the satellites are positioned above the equator.
You haven't told us what sort of receiver you have and whether you have an actuator driving the dish or Diseqc motor which uses the power to the LNB to drive the dish.
Presuming you have already tuned the dish to track the satellite arc correctly , you need to set up the receiver( I presume it's a motorised receiver)or (a seperate unit called a positioner to command the dish)to receive 3 main satellites , then it will do the rest automatically for you.
Set it up to manually receive Thor at 1 degree West (centre satellite)
Set it up to receive Hisapasat at 30 degree West (west reference satellite)
Finally set it up to receive Turksat1C at 42 degree East (east reference satellite)
The above satellites are just MY example but you could choose others if you wish.
Once you have downloaded these 3 satellites (provided you can receive them of course) manually , following the installation menu in your receiver step by step, it will engage in an automatic search for all remaining satellites for you , but it wont do it without the actual reference satellites (all 3 of them east , centre , and west).
Installing a motoriseed system is not easy and it needs patience of a saint , but the rewards are worth it.
Best to follow the receiver instructions or the onscreen menu.
I have simplified it for you , but if you need anymore help gimme a shout

First, thank you so much for the info; it really was very kind of you to take the trouble of posting a long reply. I will give setting up the dish another go tomorrow if the weather improves (I don't want to do a Rod Hull"
.
I would have got back to you sooner but my Internet connection is a bit patchy at the best of times and dead most of yesterday.
PH is a great place for information and views (and jokes) but only works if everyone contributes, so thank you again and sorry for taking so long getting back to you.
