New Year In Dublin
Discussion
Can't help you here I'm afraid. As much as I love teh place, we rent houses down the country and scare the natives every year. nearly 20 of us this year, should be a bit of banter.
I have no-idea what the city is like over new years. Just do the usual- Avoid Temple Bar, nightclubs charge silly prices (€20-30 is not unheard of) on the door, and even then the ques outside may be quite large. Finally make sure you're staying in the city as taxis I believe are near non-existent. Otherwise, Have fun!
And yes,
Guinness

Sheer curiosity is making me ask what is Temple bar and whats so bad about it? Never been to Ireland on New Years eve...Come to think of it, never been to Ireland..
There's nothing particularly wrong with it. It was a derelict area years and years ago which was regenerated with clubs, bars and ummmm market style shops. It actually is a very vibrant active part of the city (it being quite small in it's own right) which has a big draw on tourists. For this reason, it bizarrly isn't very "Dublin" as every fecker in there is from somewhere else. Which kinda makes it pointless coming all the way over here to experience a tourists impression of Dublin. Plus there was a big problem with English stag partys a few years ago to the point that no pub I know of now will knowingly allow them in any more.
I'll only go to one bar in Temple Bar called "The Temple Bar" which is a great properish Irish pub in the heart of the city, Plays good background music and has a good smoking area out the back (very important these days!). Or to The Porter House which is a micro brewery pub (I believe there's one in London) with beautiful beers and stouts. As I said, there's nothing actually wrong with it, have a few pints there and in a regular Dublin pub, and you'd see the difference a country mile off.

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but I'm off to Dublin tomorrow (from South Wales) to watch Robert Plant play in the night.
As Temple Bar is to 'touristy', can you give me some alternative venues (We are 4 blokes and into 'proper' pubs - not posers parlours).
We'll be getting there (Dublin airport) at 11:45am. Plant gig starts at 9:30pm. Flight home at 7:00am.
What can we do either side of the gig.????
Cheers,
Nick
