End of the road for the old Routemaster today.

Also, it was the last of the "Open Platform" style buses operating in the British Isles.

Thought it was yesterday? Anyway, they said on the radio that there are still a few guided tours using them so not dead yet. Shame, really. Bloody safety laws ...

They were going to run them until 2016 when the EU open access for the disabled came into effect , but good old Ken brought this foward to now

Replaced by massive 'bendy' buses which are totally unsuited to London's roads, all the bright idea of that reptilian scum, Livingstone.

One of my first memories of growing up in London as a small boy is travelling on a Routemaster.

And MrsU won't let me buy one.

they keep bringing out retro styled cars why not do the same with busses rather than just design a square box on wheels with no heart

I don't think they are guided tours exactly. They are "additional" routes that have been picked to link places of interest. Start tomorrow morning.

And I travel on "bendy" buses a lot and have never been on one that got stuck anywhere.

I absolutely F**ing hate those F***ing B*****d things. They must be single handedly responsible for more congestion than any other vehicle on the road. One of the few vehicles that can hinder pedestrian progress as well as vehicular progress. Stupid stupid stupid

The perfect bus for London. Designed by engineers when quality and fit-for-purpose meant something, killed by short-sighted accountants and the politically correct.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone once said only a "moron" would axe the Routemaster.

Bond will have to stop at Mr Patel's to pay his congestion charge, then find a £60 parking ticket on his Aston when he returns.
