Cameron 6/4 for next PM - would you back or lay?
Discussion
Agreed, with Blair gone, I see a lot of infighting when the various factions of the party he's subdued try and fight for a voice.
I think its more likely that Brown will win the next election as PM, however will lose the following.
As always, I will be voting Blue, but I dont believe we will win the next one.
Although we have the English vote, the Scottish and Welsh conservatives are very very weak.

I think Wales will be a big swinging battleground, certaintly the South.
Cardiff has more £30K - £50K earners than anywhere else in the UK, these are the people that Labours policy of tax by stealth has utterly battered.
I wouldnt at all be suprised if we saw a swing in this demographic purely on fiscal policy.

We'll have to rely on Ian D to bring the Scots around to his way of thinking, and whoever is Welsh to look after them.
I don't think they should aim to win this next one, they should let this lot completely enmire themselves, and then win the one afterwards on a landslide.

The rebranding starts here (hopefully)
Fingers, toes, childrens fingers and toes as well as the cats (painful
) Regardless who wins though (you never know.....!) we desperately need a strong political system - for those "in power" and those as the official opposition. Without we run the risk of ploughing down a route which we cannot recover from - some would even say that we are already doing this!!!
I really bloody hope he pulls it off.... I really do....

Really, I didnt think that Wales was full of swingers!
However, I would say that the battleground is the whole of the UK. The Cons. managed to turn pretty much the whole country Blue with Maggie (lets not drag out the whole Maggie debate again though). Taking some core labour areas Opp North - traditional areas which would have never considered voting anything outre than labour that is.
Ok, I dont expect a major swing (oooerrr) again back to Cons., but a greater spread and tighter fights in these key locations has got to be expected. Labour strongholds have got to be a thing of the past...? Surely?
I work in one of the strongest labour areas in the country (it's not called the People's republic of South yorkshire for nothing!) and there are a lot of traditional Labour voters who couldn't give a fig for Blair and his cronies - they care about their local politicians, and vote strictly for them as they are mainly old Labour. There needs to be a mood of optimism spreading across the country like never before to turn significant parts of labour territory blue.
The thing I think may hold Cameron back is his confidence, or lack of it. He doesn't seem to own the room when he's talking and he always looks uncomfortable in front of the camera. It will be hard for people to think of him as a leader if he can't change this.
Hopefully the ineviatable increase in publicity and time he spends in front of the camera will soon take care of this.

South Yorkshire and a LOT of the north will never turn Blue within the next couple of generations.
Its just not realistically going to happen. Bearing in mind many of my relatives are from there and I spend a fair amount of time there, we are talking of people who consider that Thatcher wilfully and single handedly destroyed the miners and generations of colliery workers at a stroke.
One side of my family was either in the armed forces or the colliery for centuries - I've never come out to that branch of the family as a Conservative, some of them would disown me over it!
