Right, I've got some rather serious toothache going on. I've already have some Ibuprofen but I've now just been and bought Paramol. Do I have to wait the four hours or can you actually use them both together?

As far as I know, you can take ibuprofen and a paracetemol or codeine based pain killer together without waiting the 4 hours.

Thats what I've been told anyway. The doc told me to mix ibuprofen and calpol for the kids when they were poorly cos you didn't have to leave 4 hours between doses.

edited to add, I take ibuprofen and solphadeine together if the pain is bad.

grass widow is right, when I had my wisdom teeth out they prescribed ibuprofen and paracetamol together, by the way clove oil is great for tooth ache, dip a piece of tissue in it and bite down where the pain is it practically numbs the pain, make sure your not allergic to it of course

you can use them both together, but my dentist recommended not taking them at the same time (does that make sense ?)

i.e. take paracetomal based pain relief every 4 hours, ibuprofen every 6 (?) but staggered, so 08:00 paracetamol, 10:00 ibuprofen, 12:00 paracetemol etc.

You can still take the max doseage for each of the painkillers, but no more, so read the labels re max doseage (obvious I know)

Ibuprofen tablets sometimes contain paracetemol. In which case no, otherwise it's fine. I've been prescribed both at the same time by a doctor before as well.

Check the ingredients, make sure your not double dosing on paracetamol, you should be fine.

I can't take Paracetamol anymore because I get a severe adverse reaction to it but I used to take Ibuprofen + Paracetamol alternating every 2 hours if I had really bad pain.

Can wholeheartedly recommend the new Nurofen rapid gel capsules - best over-the-counter Ibuprofen that I've tried.

Although I have some much stronger stuff from the doc's in my cupboard

Worth mentioning if you're planning to take both is that a lot of painkillers contain a lot of caffiene.

Try and find some without unless you fancy climbing the walls at 4 in the morning unable to sleep!

I took codine, paracetemol, neurofen and sleeping tablets once and halucinated that I was being abducted by Vulcans. I had been awake for 4 days at the time though.
