I will shortly receive an insurance payout for my watch that was stolen recently.
It should be in the region of £3000. Aside from the usual Breitling/Rolex options any reccomendations for a rep[lacement of roughly the same value?

Any IWC watch. they are the daddies in my opinion. Just don't get a rolex!

I second the IWC suggestion, also Blancpain or Patek Philipe (if budget can stretch)

FWIW I'm after:

An IWC Portuguese
A Tag Monaco
An Omega Speedmaster
And a Rolex Submariner

Not too hopeful this Christmas though

I do like the IWC watches but just can't seem to get excited by them. Don't worry Rolex is not a consideration.

As repatedly discussed, my friend, I will not buy a TAG. Posting that here instead of turning round and saying it will not weaken my resolve.

not too early. My tears are replaced by excitement at being able to go shopping for cars, bikes ,watches and a laptop!. Quite good this burglary malarky. I reccomend it if you get alittle bored of your possessions.

And stop admiring them on Google images and then claiming you don't like them!!

Why not? I'm not too keen on Tags myself, but the retro ones (Monaco, Monza, Autavia and Carrera) are gorgeous.

I have an irrational dislike of certain brand names. TAG and Rolex being the two main ones.
Both have very nce watches and my dislike is based on nothing (maybe volume of fakes?).
In the absense of other suggestions I am likely to get:

If you do a little digging you can find the original 'Heuer' watches for less than you'll pay for the mass produced TAG 'copies' a whole lot cooler and your less likely to see one on someone elses wrist.
I'm always on the look out for a good Autavia, and when you think a mint one is only going to be £700 compared to £2k for the new copy the original looks a bargin,
Or for something a little different I love the look of a Panari,

panerai are superb. The ones I particularly like though are a little out of budget

I am a relative newbie to the world of watches. I recently bought one of these and it's yummy I wanted a nicely engineered timepiece that wasn't flash and the Seamaster GMT fitted the bill.

The following all IMHO of course, but don't get a Longines, Breitling or a TAG. The vast majority I have ever looked at seemed tat compared to Omega / Zenith / Patek. Not to say they are, just didn't have that engineered feel to them. I have a Seiko that is as good as a mid-range Tag. Goes without saying get a mechanical and not a Quartz. Rolex Daytona uses a Zenith movement which is quite nice, but not a fan of Rolex. Avoid flash looking watches - they make you look a tw@...! How about a Zenith El-Primero Flyback...?

PS : I have a friend who's a serious watch collector / dealer, so if you wanna know what's hot and what's not then PM me and I'll ask.
