The happy thread....

...because it sure as hell needs one! Why's everyone so miserable on PH today? Every time I read a thread today it's about depression or death or some such:

What the hell's going on? Anyway, I'm going to attempt to bring some perspective:
1) Sometimes I find life tough
2) Sometimes I feel low for no reason
3) Sometimes there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel
4) Sometimes I'm let down by people
When the above happens and I'm feeling pretty low, I say to myself, "time to get some perspective". My family are healthy (others aren't so lucky). None of my kids have been run over by a car today (others aren't so lucky). I'm not terninally ill, and this time tomorrow I'll still be alive (others aren't so lucky). My wife hasn't left me for another man (others aren't so lucky). I'm not living in a slum in Africa watching my baby die (others aren't so lucky). Etc..etc..etc..

I'm feeling damn good. Work for today is almost done, I'll be working on my car tonight, tomorrow evening is a work christmas do, Saturday is my b-day, skiing starts in a few weeks, everything is going just fine at the moment. A couple months back, I was the down-in-the-dumps guy, but I dug myself out cause being unhappy just isn't very damn much fun.
Here's hoping anyone feeling down can get back ontop of the world again.

....with my luck the
ing light is an oncoming train!!!
Seriously, you're entirely right - my life aint been great but my dear departed Nan reckoned you didn't have a right to be happy, healthy AND wealthy and I'm happy and healthy and that's good enough for me. I count my blessings everyday that I might be blooming skint but I have my health and my happiness and that's enough for me.
When I read about Richard Burns and others who die young it makes me want to live every minute of every day the best I can and be glad that I have the chance to live it.
Be happy

I'm a happy chappy and won't bother others with my misery . . . When I feel bad I won't tell you! At least I try . . .
See what I mean?
Cheer up! live is to short to be down. And I know down

Every time I read a thread today...
Whilst I did start one of the threads you quoted, it was nearly a year ago and not today. Can I be excused as I wasn't to know somebody would dig it up on the 'day of depressing PH threads'?
My point is proven. A year later and you're still here, and in good humour! I salute you sir.
You could hear the hoof beats pound
As they raced across the ground
And the clatter of the wheels
As they spun round and round
And he galloped into Market Street
His badge upon his chest
His name was Ernie
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west
Now Ernie loved a widow
A lady known as Sue
She lived all alone in Linley Lane
At number twenty two
They said she was too good for him
She was haughty, proud and chic
But Ernie got his cocoa there
Three times every week
They called him Ernie (Ernie)
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west
She said she'd like to bathe in milk
He said alright sweetheart
And when he finished work one night
He loaded up the cart
He said you wanted pasturised
Coz pasturised is best
She says Ernie I'll be happy
If it comes up to me chest
And that tickled old Ernie (Ernie)
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west
Now Ernie had a rival
An evil looking man
Called Two Ton Ted from Teddington
And he drove the bakers van
He tempted her with his treacle tarts
And his tasty wholemeal bread
And when she saw the size
Of his hot meat pies
It very near turned her head
She nearly swooned at his macaroon
And he said now if you treat me right
You'll have hot rolls evry morning
And crumpets every night
He knew once she'd sampled his layer cake
He'd have his wicked way
And all Ernie had to offer
Was a pint of milk a day
Poor Ernie (Ernie)
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west
One lunchtime Ted saw Ernie's horse and cart outside her door
It drove him mad to find it was still there at half past four
And as he leaped down from of his van
Hot blood through his veins did course
And he went across to Ernie's cart
And he didnarf kick his horse
Who's name was Trigger (Trigger)
And he pulled the fastest milkcart in the west
Now Ernie rushed out into the street
His goldtop in his hand
He said if you want to marry susie
You'll fight for her like a man
Oh why don't we play cards for her
He sneeringly replied
And just to make it interesting
We'll have a shilling on the side
Now Ernie dragged him from his van
And beneath the blazing sun
They stood there face to face
And Ted went for his bun
But Ernie was to quick
Things didn't go the way ted planned
And a strawberry flavoured youghurt
Sent it spinning from his hand
Now Sue she ran between them
And tried to keep them apart
And Ernie pushed her aside
And a rock cake caught him underneath his heart
And he looked up in pained surprise
As the concrete hardened crust
Of a stale pork pie caught him in the eye
And Ernie bit the dust
Poor Ernie (Ernie)
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west
Ernie was only fifty-two, he didn't want to die
Now he's gone to make deliveries
In that milkround in the sky
Where the customers are angels
And ferocious dogs are banned
And a milkmans life is full of fun
In that fairy dairy land
But a woman's needs are many fold
And Sue she married Ted
But strange things happened on their wedding night
As they lay in their bed
Was that the trees a rustling
Or the hinges of the gate
Or Ernies ghostly goldtop a rattling in their crate
They won't forget Ernie (Ernie)
And he drove the fastest milkcart in the west

Spot on Steve.
I think many people, myself included, are far too preoccupied with the negative in their lives, and as a result, do not keep things in perspective.
I often have "bad days" at work - yet putting it in perspective I am very well paid for what I do, enjoy it in general, work with some great people and am one of the best at what I do worldwide (honest!). I then come home to my own home, partner, TVR and the usual mod cons.
And if I got sick of it all I could probably sell up, move somewhere hot and inexpensive and never work again.
Obviously lots of people have their own (very real) problems, and depression is a very different thing from 'depressing' but most on here don't have too much to complain about IMHO.

Saturday is my b-day
Me too! Although I am spending all of it working for no money and have just turned down some very well paid work for it
Oddly enough, I too will be working for free most of the day.
being a bit
from the
the night before probably won't help. Ah well, perhaps there will be ski-bunny damsels in distress that I can rescue over the winter with my ski patrol first aid, which would make spending the day learning it worth while. Of course, it's far more likely to be a duece/deuce-and-a-half of 45 yo mother of 4...
Have a good weekend... and a few

Top post UpTheIron! We haven't *really* got a lot to moan about if you look at the bigger picture have we?
Sure we've all got small things that get on our wick but major illness, depression, and things you can't change are things to get worried about ...
