Hi all,

Just have to tell you I've just picked up my 02, series 2, sports tourer elise in lazer blue with blue soft top. I'm now skint for Christmas so my family is going to be a wee bit disappointed with their presents this year....

Only one fault so far - no rear view mirror! I'm amazed I never noticed it before! I'm taking it Elise do come with rear view mirrors? The owners handbook says they do and there was nothing on the amendments to the manual sheet that came with it? Surely it's a legal requirement? Back to the dealers with it I think!

My last car was a 2001 Y Smart LHD Pulse so aside from both being plastic two seaters I couldn't have made a bigger leap! I'm going to miss the turbo on the Smart of course but I'll just have to make do without it somehow

No questions about as yet , I learned that the top switch for the lamps is the sidelight and not the full headlamps in a ferocious thunderstorm on the M6! New discs and pads all round courtesy of the dealer so I'm avoiding heavy breaking for a couple of hundred miles, I'm not avoiding heavy acceleration however, just doing it when the road ahead is clear for miles - you have no idea how nice it is to put your foot down (any gear) and feel a response. In the Smart you put your foot down and wait for it, wait for it....accelerate, wait a bit longer.....a bit longer...overtake (as long as it isn't uphill of course).

Anyway, this is more information than any of you wanted and to compound it I'll be taking pics and posting them over the weekend, like you havent seen an Elise before!

So excited, not going to sleep well tonight, can't wait for the weekend and then the summer!

Oh and another thing - insurance. After shopping round I found "Swift Cover" to be about the best. I paid £744 for fully comp, protected no claims with one claim and one SP30 in the last 5 years, 35 years old, no history of performance cars, parked on the street overnight, £500 excess. I was paying £330 for about the same deal on the Smart so I think that's pretty good. I can't recommend them other than on price as I haven't had to make a claim, but they were head and shoulders better than everyone else (£1500 with the main direct insurers, £850 with the one that rhymes with Badrian Crucks.

Thats all for now. Hope I'll be seeing some of you around the northwest / Liverpool (I'm not a scouser I just live here!).

Tony.

I thought they came standard with a mirror - my S2 has one. Perhaps the previous owner took it out to take video through the windscreen. It is easy to stick on a new one.

Would stongly recommend getting a non OEM mirror, as it was to big for the car.
You can see yourself and the passenger in it, as well as looking through the rear window. The Hanger 111 version is a lot smaller and if you are above 5'6" doesnt not block as much of the view through the windscreen. Its on my wish list as I'm 6'4".

Hey Beechbum, i agree with your thoughts about seeing the passenger in the rear view mirror, so long as you have a sexy looking lady next to you , then its no problem !

Hi and welcome! My last car was a 2000 W reg smart pulse, and agree its a strange leap! Dont miss it much though, apart from the parking ease.

I have found the elise uses the same amount of petrol as my modified smart did, and costs less to service. Its just insurance thats a bitch!

And very good it is too (I have one) but you need something to fix it to and it sounds like the mounting point has been removed from this car.

Apologies for resurrecting this post, but thought I'd treat myself to a decent rear view mirror. Being 6'4", means the OEM version obstructs a large portion of the widscreen for me.

Are Hanger 111 having a laugh. £77.54 for a rear view mirror.

Unless someone can tell me that it also houses a Speed trap detecter and warns me if an unmarked card is behind me, I'm off to Halfords to buy their smallest mirror instead.

What a con !!!

What a rip! Beachbum - I doubt that mirror costs a fiver to manufacture. I am also thinking the halfords route.

Welcome to the party - good aren't they You are doing the right thing going steady they are tricky in bad conditions. Avoid in snow if you can....

Would recommend a bit of driver training if only for confidence. Check this guy very helpful and in your own car
