Becoming a plumber
Discussion
ah yes, plumbers, the next mythical goose that lays golden eggs.
I'm not being personal, but every couple of years there is a profession that has a few high profile examples of people earning fortunes thus everyone and their uncle stampedes to train up and by the time they "graduate" there are a glut of new entrants and people start finding that getting any work is very hard to do. The last well publicised example of this was web designers.
you would be well advised to think a little more laterally about future employment options, some of the wealthiest people i know do really strange things for a living that you would not think that there is any money in, but there is.

Point taken, which I hadn't thought of. However, not one to be over concerned with earning a fortune (neither was the original poster).... Just think a degree of job satisfaction must be had with this kinda career, as opposed to working for my current boss.
Do whatever makes you happy, not what will make you wealthy (poor people always say this, don't they?!)
Fine if you want to spend the rest of your life with your arm round someone elses U bend. A mate of mine started a plumbing apprentaship when he left school, he lasted 3 weeks.
Once he had worked out that no plumbers were over 45 and all the 40 year old plumbers had shot backs and knees.
You can make good money if you work, hard do the hours, on call 3am burst pipe stuff. The real money is in gas fitting especially if you get the corgi comercial qualifications. Most plumbers are scared of the maths so don't do comercial.
I'm not a plumber as I don't do hard work but I know plenty.
