Some help with a flat let please!
Discussion
Morning everyone,
I'm trying to rent a flat in London for weeknights to save on our hellish commute. All is progressing well and we have found a flat we like and ticks most of the right boxes. The problem is we have a slight concern which I would appreciate a second opinion on...
The flat is in a Mews and is above a garage (which I can rent ) so is entered straight off the street. The problem is the front door - it is a 1960's type thing with a single skin of wood in the bottom 'square' which I think is pretty insecure (easy to kick through). Its also fairly warped so blows a gale and 'looks' insecure.
The Landlord originally agreed to replace the door (which we stipulated in our offer) but now has realised that a)its in a conservation area so he may have to get permission, and b)he has a superior landlord who he has to approach regarding external changes. Instead he wants to fit some new locks and 'repair' the warping to the door rather than fit a new one as originally agreed - when pushed he has said he will investigate fitting a new door in the new year (when he comes back to the UK).
Obviously we haven't signed contracts yet - I'm not sure if to run a mile or dive in. The problem is, the flat is in W1 with decent parking and a possible garage which for the money is incredibly rare.
Am I being over cautious/paranoid about the door? Any suggestions?

I am inclined to agree - next door but 1 is some 'executive parking' with some *very* tast motors in (the only multi storey car park I have seen where most of the cars have tailored dust covers).
My concern is that we would be living in what appears to be a very expensive flat in an expensive area (although we have been lucky and really shouldnt be able to live there) BUT appear to have crap security. I'd hate to be an easy target and be woken up by scroats trying to steal our riches (which we dont have). Does that make sense - or should I regret reading the Daily Mail in the doctors surgery the other week?
