Looking around at new tariffs etc for my personal mobile, as I'm fed up with Vodafone ripping me off, I found a superb T-Mobile tariff
Only problem is that I know nothing about them - so....Pistonheads massive, any thoughts on T-Mobile, should I run a mile or are they OK (coverage etc)

It rather depends where you live. Anywhere 'urban' should be fine, but my wife's Virgin phone (which runs on T-Mobile's network) has only marginal reception (and sometimes none at all) in our house. On the other hand I never got a signal from Vodafone at all here. Most of the networks have a postcode checker on their website - put in the addresses of where you're most likely to use it and see what it says...
Finally, if its a contract, they usually have a 15-day money back guarantee (check this when buying) - so if you can't get a signal where you need to use it you can take it back.

Never had a problem with mine in rural areas when I have needed to use it, but then I try and use it as infrequently as possible so it may be there are umpteen times I don't have a signal and I just don't notice. The tariff I hiave is much better than what anyone else was offering though

Today is your last day for getting the 3mobile half priced line rental. I was so impressed with their products I have just signed myself up to become a dealer myself
Some background:
1) I first bought a 3mobile handset three years ago. It was total rubbish, and dropped calls contantly. I vowed never to buy one again
2) I bought another one last December the 30th and it was delivered on New Years Eve at 9am the following day
It also dropped a few calls, but the offer was very good, i.e. 500 cross network, anytime minutes and 100 texts for £15 pm for 9 months then £30 for the last three. The service wasn't at all clever to begin with, but when it dropped a call I would just the person back and apologise as my handset was a cheap one. After the first four months, it has never dropped a call since. I was impressed.
3) I just bought a Nokia 6680 brand new in the box from ebay for £100. Now my contract is up for renewal and 3mobile have just anounced they are not doing the half-price calls, I wanted to get a good deal personaly - and I cetainly have!
I didn't want an expensive phone just a good rental deal so I downgraded the phone to an NEC 338. I wanted more talk time so I upgraded the package to Talk 900, which gives you 750 anytime minutes and 150 texts for £40pm, BUT because of the 3mobile half price rental offer, 3mobile gives me 3 months at £20pm. Now because I have a downgraded phone I also get a £195 cash back - which the dealer put staright on the phone contract, so I have a positive balance BEFORE I get a bill - effectively I am paying the following:
£20 for the first 3 months = £60.
£40 for the rest (9)months = £360.
----------------------------------
Total = £420 per annum.
Now take off the £195
for the cashback = £225
That means you get 750 cross-network, anytime minutes and 150 free texts every month for...
just £18.75pm
But I also have the two free 3mobile phones brand new and sealed in the box which I am selling on ebay for another £150 which means my phone bill is now only £6.25pm
See here if you want a cheap phone
So £6.25 gets you 750 minutes and 150 texts. Needless so say I am rather impressed

T-Mobile are gash in my experience. I get absolutely no coverage at work at all (used to be fine when I was on o2) and I get intermitant problems receiving calls when I'm at home, even though I live in the middle of a large town.
I have called T-Mobile "help" desk on a dozen occasions and every time they have a different excuse, workaround or some other bollox.
I've got to the point where I use my mobile so infrequently it's hardly worth the effort, but on the plus side my mobile bills are next to nothing!

Me, dieselnut and his parents are all on tmobile and have never had any problems from them
I mystery shop them as part of my job, and have found the instore service to be ok.
Tariff wise, you can go for a PAYG, a contract or the new UFix, which is where you select the amount you want to pay monthly from a choice of two or three, and you get so many minutes and texts included. If you go over your allowance you can then top it up with vouchers.
They also have soem quite good offers with half plice line rental for 12 months if you take an 18 month contract, and some of the top of the range phones free on contract.
We don't have any problems with coverage, and have never noticed any places, even when on holiday where we couldnt get signal, but as people have said, it likely depends on the area.

I've been with them for 8 years and i've never had any signal problems with any of my phones. An important factor is the phone you use - i noticed a significant signal boost when i swapped to a nokia phone - they must have a better aerial design or something..
I'd agree that the customer service is pretty shite, It appears their call centre in glasgow or wherever employs people who dont give a shit !

The greatest thing about 3....is that your phone bills will be very low...becuase the network sucks to high heaven and so you cant make or recieve calls....and the customer service...well make sure you dont call during certain hours or else you have to deal with an off shore call centre, the employees of which are clueless!
IMHO its swings and roundabouts with the Networks - all can be good (service/receiption/reliability) and all can be very, very bad.
A few years ago my monthly £450 bill from Voda turned into a £120 bill from T-Mobile simply by switching provider/tariff - I was travelling on business all over the place at the time. Service etc. was no better or worse than Vodafone.
Have now been on 3 for the past 3 years. Initial handsets were rubbish, but I've now got a Nokia 6680 from them (free) that is excellent all round.
In short it comes down to cost, unless network coverage at a particular location is relevant. Why pay hundreds or thousands of pounds more per year to get what is essentially a very similar service?
Rgds all. Phil

We are constantly getting calls from abroad saying we have been selected for a free 3 phone, blah, and they will not stop talking even when we tell them point blank we are not interested. If you say you already have a phone and contract they want to know who it is with, how long you have had it, etc.
Dieselnut has asked everytime to be taken off the list, and the next day we get another call.
In desperation he wrote an e-mail to customer services, along the lines of "i don't know who's idea it was to use foreign call centres but I am sick of receiving calls from people who obviously only understand what is written on their script, please remove me etc" - nothing racist or offensive, but just voicing his displeasure...
..He received a call back a day or two later form customer services.... Obviously operated from abroad as the woman had the same accent as all the others!
