Lotus Powered Metro
Discussion
Hi all
I've just taken delivery of an interesting car, a 1992 Metro GTi 16v, with a 120bhp Elise Engine, with a few mods, Superchips Icon Race Chip, Pipercross filter, Tubular manifold. Very responsive, but I'm having troubles getting any traction in the wet though. Roll on the summer.
Hopefully going to be using on some trackdays next year, I'm keeping it Road Registered and Road legal, I might put some 1.1 badges on the back to fool the unsuspecting public!!

Yes its a K Series lifted directly from a wrecked Elise, so not from a Rover, and the Lotus Cam cover looks much nicer, even if it is upside down.!
Well seeing as it's an overbored Metro engine anyway I guess it should fit rather nicely.
Will be fun to hear about your track exploits surprising a few others no doubt! Enjoy.
Guy I know had a Metro with a 212bhp K in it. It was mental. He had no rollcage in it though and it was as soft as sh*te in corners - bodyshell looked like it was twisting. However, off the startline on a hillclimb he had everything in the class beaten. It was totally road legal and with being ECU controlled (as opposed to carb fed like all the Fiestas, Novas etc in the class) it was pretty docile and would trundle along as a Metro should.
The engine's now in a Rover 200 with a cage and decent suspension and it's faster than the Metro ever was. Scary stuff. It sounds ace.
Bear in mind that, as stated above, it's not a Lotus powered Rover. The Elise is a Rover powered Lotus, this is a Rover powered Rover.

Hi,
What did MG have to do with this ? I thought it was a a rover V8 engine with two of the pot's removed ? I.e. a V6
Boggy
Who did you buy it off?
The reason I ask is that I race Metros and we had an invitation class this year which attracted some 1800 cars, many of which I believe were road legal! It may well be one of those.
As far as Metros with that much power go, my racing one has close to that power and is absolutely fine. OK, it isn't road legal, but the tyres are road legal (48Rs - as fitted to some Elises) so theoretically with a few non-performance orientated mods it could be made road legal. I am famous for hating FWD, but actually my racing Metro handles amazingly well - easily the best handling FWD car I've ever driven (yes: 106 Gti, Civic Type R and Integra R included). I still don't like FWD, but for a FWD car, it is fantastic!
Took ages to sort it though, I confess (4 years of racing and learning how to tweak the handling).

Nobody seems to be quite sure what happened to it, one was built by the Lotus factory (IIRC as a development mule for some sort of Volvo racing or rally car), and then vanished a few years later, never to be seen again.
Total stealth beast

It came from a guy in Norfolk, I live in Durham, so it was some journey to go and get it. The car has had some work carried out by Moto Build in the past judging by the receipts.
I am on the look out for a cage for it, what tyres would you recommend for 'dry' trackdays? It does not matter if road legal or not, as these will just be for the track.

I believe a view years ago? I saw an Ford Fiesta!! with rear wheel drive and a TVR 4.3 V8 engine with around 300hp and an awesome soundtrack! realy, I believe miss Vicky drove that car against Tif in an other car, real fun in that Fiesta, I thought thats a nice beast, nobody suspects such a power and RWD in a Fiesta! a big job to build but I would like that car as a surprise car for special days

We're limited by the championship regs, so I've only ever run on Yoko 21Rs and 48Rs. I love the 48Rs (I run "soft" ones), but there may be better tyres out there. I was able to choose the sidewall thickness to give the gearing I wanted, and have lowered my laptimes as a result. They are road legal, if that matters to you. Of course, slicks might be better (I've never run on them), but I'm not sure if they are allowed at most trackdays.

Overpowered Metro?? what about this Metro 6RV with around 410bhp and 4wd it can do 0 to 100mph in just 8.2 sec! amazing little rocketcar, I love it...

Not comparing apples with apples. The 6RV was a rally bred car which had about as much in common with the normal metro as trifle. What we are talking about here is a suped up shopping trolley, with about as much crash protection!
