i hope the factory get on to the sunday times to put them straight.

It's fecking cheeky as not only is 'something called an Ultima GTR' a little condescending (imagine if I wrote 'Andrew Frankel is something called a journalist' rather than 'Andrew Frankel is a journalist' and you will see what I mean) but the implication is that the 0-100-0 record Ultima have is worthless because it isn't independently verified by The Sunday Times.
Well, excuse me, but when I did the High Wycombe White Horse Domino World Record Challenge, I had Roy Castle and Norris McWhirter there, not some dingbat from Fleet St.
And I suppose the independent verification and witnessing by Datron, the timing people, counted for dog poo. Despite the fact they make timing equipment that all the car mags use (and the Sunday Times undoubtedly quote).
Only redeemed by the fact that Frankel's Xsara world rally car could only just break an 11 secs 0-100-0; well off the pace compared to the Ultima. And the Ultima doesn't have 4WD to aid traction.

does annyone know what the 0-100-0 time is of the fast but heavy Bugg Veyron?

Sounds like Andrew Frankel has had his noses put out of joint, from what I remember he was never invited to witness the runs, interestingly the picture in the Sunday times of rally car and huge transporter, and crew I guess.
We drove there in the Ultima, some tools came in another car, Ted rocked up in his motor and history was done, it was that easy !!
I believe there are several versions of the car now with other customers !!

I didn't see it, it didn't happen! well the driver of the rallycross car must have been sh*t!
pat durans new fiesta will do 0-60 in sub 2 seconds (i think he did it in 1.9 in track and race car a few months back)! and i think the 0-100 time are insane, about 5 seconds i think!
you have to take what motoring "papers" say with a pinch of salt! its not like they keep up with the times, unless its the new mondeo/vetra/BMW!!!

What fiesta is it? the one with a TVR V8 engine and rwd? I saw a few? years ago on TOP GEAR? I liked that sound and monster little car, a real surprise car at the stoplights

the xsara rally car they used did 0-100 in about 6 seconds... slower than an Ultima GTR 640 and a McLaren F1

Strange as a std ford focus (not the RS) does 100-0 in under 5 seconds!
I'd not consider it a real attempt at the record anyhow if they used anything other than proper road tyres, sticking super sticky tyres/slicks on just for the record attempt isn't a real reflection of what the car does.
There are pikes peak cars out there that would destroy the Ultima times on slicks, but they are not a std production car wereas an Ultima is.
But you need to keep the Journal bod's happy if you want them on side, they clearly had a chip on their shoulder for being cancelled.
PI$$ them off and they will print whatever they like, Noble have this sussed and is why they get such good press.
Mr Frankel is endowed with the gift of journalistic licence that means they can write an awful lot of crap as long as they spell out the rules they are watching. But give him his due, after his article in the Subday [oops, slip of the right digit] Times article where they compared an Ariel, Westfield and a Noble, my email was printed the next week saying how wrong they were with their claims for the fastest production cars. It will never be printed that the W......d did not have road legal tyres, not did it have proper lights etc etc. But lets hope that the Subday Times does stick to its promise to let owners of production cars come along to its next 0-100-0 challenge. I wish the factory would take up more of the challenges/offers to prove the pretenders wrong, but with all the shit that goes with TV and media I cannot blame then for keeping their integrity and smiling to themselves, just like the rest of us should be.....but just maybe one sunday evening we'll see our pride and joy trashing the opposition????
GTRene, its his new one that he is using in the British rallycross championship and some European events as well. its got a 2.0ltr Cossy with about 500bhp and 580lbsft! the thing is amazing! looks like a beefed up fiesta rally car!!

Errm, I was talking 0 to 100 not 100 to 0... they are a bit different.
Will Gollup's 6R4 or whatever pike's peak monster you want to quote, may do a 0-100 time of 5 seconds or so. As the xsara almost did. A 'std ford focus' will do it in about 25 seconds or something horrendous.
As for braking, this is about 4 secs for decent supercars with road tyres... and even a 'std ford focus' is going to do it under 5... modern braking systems are that good. As you point out... But my point was that it is harder stopping the cars than getting them up there, say 3 secs even on slicks, so a 0-100-0 time of 5 secs isn't really feasible even for pikes peak stuff. Maybe they could do an 8 secs 0-100-0 but I doubt much better (0-100 in 4, then 0.5 secs reaction time then 3.5 secs back down).
