This week ime going through the 91's suspension and am going to give it a good clean, regrease and look at the bushes.
First thing to do was take it down the garage and jet blast it to get most of the road dirt off, then it was back to my place and start on one corner at a time with degreaser, strip it down, and more cleaning, this will give me chance to check out bushes, shock and brake wear clean up electrical sensors, and check the wheel bearings.

Ive undone the knuckle and taken it off to make access easier to clean other parts but ive not touched the top A arm or track rod end as i dont want to upset the tracking and camber if i can help it,next step is to take off the shock.

Surely the next pics will be along the lines of :

And here we see my Wife telling me to get my car bits out of the fg kitchen. - Note the size of the bread knife she's holding, which I polished up only last week.

Here we see the cuts and bruises she gave me...

Here we see the Divorce court - that was a long day.

Only kidding Cliff - look forward to the finished pics.

I love these photo stories of yours, Cliff, even though I don't have a C4. It's cool to see the story unfolding. More photos please!

Thanks Ben i find it handy aswell as it give me time to have a good look at the condition under all the road dirt, ive noticed the rubber bushes on the lower A arm are deteriating on the outside, but through expeience know they are OK in the pivot, none the less its a job i can put on my "not so important list".

This next photo shows with the shock removed and a good wash down with soapy water then a rinse.
Ive also cleaned up the shock, its got no leaks so ive glued back the edges of the stickers that were peeling off and polished the shock.

Ive refitted the cleaned up shock and knuckle, the wheel bearing casing on the 91 is different to my 90 and needs a good wire brushing then i will give it a couple of coats of aluminium paint, the brake discs will be skimmed at a local machine shop this friday and the two front wheels will be taken to the local tyre centre to be sent off to "Spit&Polish" to be restored with a blast, paint and laquer, they have a pick up and return service as part of the price.
Ile keep you in touch with the prices as soon as i know them.

In this pic is the front right side Wheel bearing,a complete unit it is different from the 90's in that the ABS sensor is integral
As you would expect it has taken a hammering from the elements and although the WB is operating OK i am going to clean it up and get the loose rust off to give it a protective coat of aluminium paint, making sure to overlap around the sensor plug to help make it water tight,i wont go over baord about the finish as this is a servicable throw away item.

All this needs now once it is bolted back on is some electrical grease on the plug and shes up and running.

Got there in the end ,no thanks to the weather.
The discs were ok and once cleaned up and roughed up with some rough grit paper came up well,i took the caliper apart and cleaned out the dust that gets collected between the pad and caliper,i deciced only to paint the caliper bracket and just gave the rest a good wire brushing as i didnt want to mess around with heat that builds up in the caliper and other brake parts.

Just doing the one side has made a noticable difference in the braking,i suppose over time you dont realise the braking sharpness deminishing and its deffinately worth doing over the winter months.

Looks loads better. Do you have a bench-mounted wire brush machine, or are you doing it all by hand?

How did you get the wheel arch so clean too? I think mine's covered in underseal so it's hard to get (and keep) clean like that.

Ben i do it all by hand using wire brushes to get the worst crap off then i use wire wool and metal cleanr, ive got some mother ali cleaner coming soon, ile let you know how it measures up.
The arches are washed rinsed and polished using "Back to black" ,i give it a couple of coats of the BTB and polish with a rag to get a shine,i find a good day normally with a jet wash and all the cleaners you can lay your hands on can give your car that added help to protect it from the sh!te they put on our roads.
