Can Am to be in Florida the End of January

Thinking very serioulsy of trailering the CanAm to Florida when I'm down there for the last week of January.
Al Rubin, who has a GTR on order, has gracioulsy offered to provide a safe haven for the car while I'm there. We've even talked about having a mini Ultima gathering at that time.
The Dates; Jan 22 to 28 (slightly flexible)
The Place: Ft. Myers Florida
The Schedule: play by ear.

Would love to have a get together in the South. I have my G50/52 trans but undecided on the motor LS2 or not and would like to talk with others about the choice and see the cars. Keep in touch.

I live in Sarasota, FL. I have a Rolling Chassis being built for me as we speak. It will not be here by January 2006. I think it should be here by March or April.

I am having a American Speed 406 c.i. 720 hp engine built right now as well. I will be having a friend in Pompano FL put the engine and the Getrag Transaxel in the car when it arrives. He has a dyno and will make any nessasary adjustments at that time.

Yes, I am very excited about getting the car. Do you think you can wait for me? If not I can meet up with you guys and have a few beers.

Will be down playing in a Baseball Tournament at that time period. If you can get the organizers to change the dates, we'll come later. Otherwise, you're only about an hour away, a will look forward to meeting you.
A CanAm in Florida in the summer, should be very interesting......what color is your "rolling sauna"?

Actually, Florida does not get any hotter than NY or Chicago in the summer. Our summers just last longer. A Can-Am is the only Ultima that makes sense in FL because you get a breeze plus A/C. A GTR will act much more like a "rolling Sauna" with the greater lack of ventilation.

I will take a longer summer any day over not being able to drive anything other than a 4X4 in the winter like to poor saps that like to live where there is snow and ice.

Glad to see that you're installing A/C. Will be interested to see what affect it has. I've joked (fingers crossed), that to have an A/C unit large enough to cool the CanAm, you'd need a trailer to carry it in!!!
Have never had a thermomter in the cockpit on a hot summer day, but I think it would read about 130' F. Have driven the car over 50 miles on the highway as low as 24'F. with only jeans, driving shoes, sweater,hat, and turtle neck jacket. Quite comfortable. I probably had the heater on. There is a certain temperature when the ambient outside temp. starts to overcome the inherent radiator and engine heat.
The factory does have some recommendations for cooling the cockpit that I don't necessarily agree with. I just tend to drive the car more at night in the summertime. As I've stated before, the most ideal temperature for the CanAm is 60' F., and that's in bare arms, and legs, and I only drive now with the small windscreen. Driving in the winter, I only need gloves below 30' F.

Looks like Sunday, January 29 will be the day of the get-together in Ft. Myers Florida at Al Rubins house.
Looks like Al will have received his GTR, and we'll have our CanAm there. This is just going to be a low key gathering, with basically talk, looking, and a few rides the only thing on the agenda.

We'll put you on the mailing list. Since Al lives in a gated community, we have to advise the gate people who will be entering.
We should have a GTR and a CanAm for test drives.

Right now it's set for Sunday, Jan.29, starting 9am at Al Rubin's house, in Ft. Myers. Al's GTR will have arrived. This is a very informal event,probably ending at a local eatery for lunch. I'll probably start heading back north that afternoon.
I'll put your name on the list for Al to give to the security guard.
Will update the schedule after the first of the year.

All is set for the informal meeting in Ft. Myers at Al Rubins House starting at 9 am.
Al has his GTR up and running, and I'll have the CanAm there via trailer from Massachusetts.
Once again, if you plan to attend, and have not contacted Al, or me, you must in order to get clearance through the security guard.

Thanks - no plans to date to be there on that weekend, but I'll see what I can muster. I have two clients in your part of the world. I'll see what I can do to arrange a reasonable reason to travel down.
