Maybe nothing wrong with ritualistic intitiating fights amongst marines, it's all part of the "tough" training, but do you think the poor rookie deserved to be kicked unconscious in the face whilst kneeling on the ground by a non commissioned officer?

At first it looks like hard men playing hard men but after that it makes you wonder what the hell was going on. Naked as well

Is anyone else more concerned that what is meant to be our toughest military force gathers in large groups and watched each other wrestle naked?

That'll put the fear of god into those insurgents, just you see...

why did that story make me think of this You can't handle the truth!

Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Bloody perculiar - some of them were dressed as women.

I have some relatives in the Marines / Commandos - and one was in 42 Commando. I'll have to have a word if I see him at Xmas...

Seems par for the course. Recruit tough men, train em to be tougher and tell them they're the toughest and you want them to play chess?

I was never a marine, but was in the infantry and para regt, and this sort of thing did happen (not with nurses outfits mind you, but then marines are in the navy really

Probably not a rookie as he was already attatched to the 42!
Initial training is done in other locations, or was.

I would guess this was a letting off steam type thing that went a little over but not much actually. The kick was not probably meant to knock him unconsious.

I have more of a problem with the guys who videod it.

Fairly day to day stuff mate, it is wrong that it should be shown to civilians though

looks to me like the bloke in the surgeon's kit saw red and lost control. Acted like a w*nker and deserves all that's coming to him. As to the rest of it, it's all fairly silly, but harmless enough. See another man's willy is not a big deal. I'm reminded of story told by a friend formerly in 45 Commando of a presentation skills course where one bloke elected to speak on the merits of personal hygiene. One of his props turned out to be the primula cheese he had carefully inserted under his foreskin.

ahem.....I seem to recall a sport of naked drinking in Norway....ahem.....twas cold, but a laugh.
Never had my head kicked in by someone wearing a surgeon's uniform, or had a fight judged by someone in school girl outfit.

Yep, the person who recorded needs taking to the side, if he hasnt allready.
This type of stuff should be kept behind closed doors, same as bloody journos
being able to go into theatres of war.
