Again I need to consult thee of brains and wisdom. I've had to remove those white foam pads that stick stuff to walls - but how on earth do you get them off cleanly?!! I've managed one or two (have 16 to do) but made a huge hole in the plaster that now needs to be filled and repainted and also wiping and scrubbing em with washing up liquid has resulted in huge patches of paint coming off...

Please help... I'm going to be buried alive if its found out I've made such a mess of the walls....

You could try nail varnish remover, although I'm not sure what effect it will have on the paint.

I would have suggested white spirit, but that would be disasterous.

Lime or lemon juice might do it, or bi-carb of soda.

Good luck

Nail varnish remover wrecks paintwork - just tried it, but its ok as it was close to the patch that needed to be repainted anyhow! Just finding a lemon and shall give it a go.

Failing that - its down to the local offy for some lighter fuel

Thanks guys!

lynx deoderant or similar - not anti perspirant powdery stuff though.

Spray on close and you will get the liquid stuff out, great for sticky things, permanent marker etc

Scrape them off with a Stanley knife blade (not the whole knife) held at a shallow angle to the surface. All the methods so far will damage the paint; this method produces the most localised damage and avoids depositing stuff that will make it hard to touch up.

Thanks Pigeon!

Have just attacked it with said knife and its worked!! w00! only a few holes to replaster now!!

The lynx idea worked too - just a bit of paint off - will remember it if I'm ever *stuck* hehe

Thanks guys - you've done a sterling job!

Previous occupant, lady of 82 decided to put some frames around the light switches. Wooden frames. Made out of plastic. Looked tacky, felt tacky. In a fit of rage the other half decided to prise them off with whatever tools she could find. And found out that each frame was stuck on with no less than sticky back plastic. Hence the mess of the walls...

Think I should point out I pulled them off with a combination of a hammer and a screw driver. That took bits out of the wall and then I attacked it with a brillo pad - it was just the nail in the coffin tbh - everything else with the house was pissing me off! She left it in a right state and sweet FA worked or stayed together - and considering the property was only 2 years old it was quite an achievement to get it in such a state!

Tomorrow I'm spending the day filling in holes where picture hooks used to be - all 40 odd of them - in a small flat...After that it is the attack on Magnolia and the summer will be replacing the floorings esp in the bathrooms and kitchen which are a hideous mock stone lino.

But we'll have a beeeutiful house when its all done.
Forgot to add that there are a few hundred cracks in the paintwork to deal with and dodgy curtain rails....I might even become a painter and decorator after all the practice I'll have got!

After seeing what Lynx has done to the paintwork there is no way in hell I'm using any kinda spray on my body..
