I am overdue for my Depo and B12 injections, the docs has been fully booked for the past 2 weeks and the next available appointment is in another 3 weeks.

This is no good for me as it needs to be done this week/beginning of next (or at BTAP ).

I have spoken to the local clinics but they cant do the injections, and I dont fancy going and harrasing A&E.

So...where can I get it done asap..?

For the depo yes, but not the B12 I expect.

I would rather get them all done at once TBH

Depo - is the pill but its in a liquid form given via injection and slowly releases into the blood stream.

B12 is vitamin B12, again given via injection. As I have Crohns, I struggle to absorb B12 so become anemic very quickly.

Now I'm more curious. I presume depo is short for something, and is B12 the same as the vitamin? Do they both have to be taken together to work?

..and where exactly do you inject em?

Depo Provera - generally injected into my arse.

B12 - arm

Both last for 12 weeks, so its better to get them done together.

register as a TR with us & we'll sort it...

OK, it's not an emergency (A&E won't have either of them), and maybe a little planning ahead might have prevented such a problem (which I'm sure you usually do), but surely the nurses will fit you in for a 5min job like these?

Sorry, I know it's not funny and all that but!

I just imagine you running into A & E:

"quick quick, I feel a shag coming on!"

TR..? The docs where I go will only accept bookings 2 weeks in advanced. And quelle surprise they were booked up. I asked to be called if there was a cancellation but nothing so far and now I am getting desperate.

Thats why I am asking on here for help. I dont fancy the consequences of not being injected.

I did ask - but they have refused. It has to be via appointment. Hence the desperation.

Temporary Resident

This sort of thing crops up all the time, and I'm pretty sure we try & fit everyone in within a couple of days - sure, it should be planned in advance, but everyone forgets now & then. The "serial offenders" ie those who often mean the nurses miss their coffee break, might get a bit of a "reminder chat", but that's about it.

What happened to Uncle Tony's 48h access target? (Ok it has its problems, and some folks do abuse the system, filling up the "urgent - book on the day" slots with routine blood pressures & that sort of thing, making it a longer wait for people who are actually ill) but they are in the minority).

Remember it for next time, though, whatever the rights & wrongs of 2 week access.

Surely you don't need a Dr appointment for either of these? (I can't remember the last time I gave either of them myself)

No its for the nurse but same rules apply.
Book 2 weeks before you need to see her.

This is the first time its happened in the 5+ years I have been having Depo/B12 and the reason: its Flu Jab season.

I do need to get it done. Therefore where can I go..?

You don't need to register if you're a temporary resident.

Still going to be a struggle to find a nurse though. 'spose you need to find somewhere where they have run out of flu vaccinations.

They'll definitely do the depo at Family Planning though.

Gaffer,

Any side effects from the Depo? I'm trying to sell someone on some sort of birth control, but she's worried about side effects.

For a week after having the injection, I feel really hungry all the time.
I now have no mood swings or any of the other issues associated with that time.

Some people put on a bit of weight in the beginning but it can be lost.
As long as they keep it up (ie get it renewed when it should) then there are no problems.

It can take 6-12 months from coming off depo to get back to the normal routine but seeing as I aint having kids (at least not for another 10 years), its not a concern for me.

www.fwhc.org/birth-control/bcdepo.htm

There are always horror stories, but you have to try it for yourself. I had all sorts of other pills before settling on Depo and TBH it was the best one for me.
