Sorry - school patrol crossing I think they are now called - can anyone advise what their jurisdiction is?

I drive my son to and from school every day, we drive up a steep hill, at the top of which is a lollipop lady. I don't mind in the slightest being stopped to let schoolkids across, what gets my goat is that she stops the traffic for absolutely everyone to cross the road - people running for the bus, people walking dogs, just anybody and everybody - so much so that I have to stop every time - four times a day every day.

I thought their job was to cross schoolkids safely across the road? Also, she runs out into the road waving her lollipop forcing cars to stop very suddenly - surely she shouldn't be making cars have to do almost an emergency stop? She probably causes more accidents than she prevents!

There's one particular lollipop lady on my school run who seems to wait until the last possible second to step out into the moving traffic. About a year ago I had the ABS kick in! I opened my window and suggested (in not so many words) that she should have a chequered flag not a lollipop. It's made no difference!!

It's an official post and they have a compulsory sign.

But recruiting from the senile is not good. Phone up their supervisor to complain if they are regularly idiotic. I have - behaviour afterwards was improved (not standing school side in the morning and stopping to get one child across when there is a ten minute tailback due to her antics. Fuming I was.)

FOR GOD'S SAKE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

And so on and so forth.....

As an aside, lollipop ladies are the pinnacle of yellow tabard syndrome.

Our local lollipop lady has recently had her lollipop taken away from her by the LA. Apparently there were complaints by motorists that she would biff cars with her lolly shaped weapon who didn't stop when she thought they should!

My understanding is that legally she only has jurisdication to stop traffic to allow "school aged children" to cross, I believe you would be legally entitled to ignore her in other circumsizes

There is an old guy in Sandy who does this, he does one kid at a time rather than getting a bunch of them together. He is also so slow on his feet that he stops the traffic before the kid even gets to the crossing to give him time to get to the middle. I got caught once in a 1 mile 20min queue caused by this bloke and now never go through Sandy after 08.00 as a result - the traffic is stopped for about 90% of the time due to this coffin dodger.

yup thats my biggest gripe with them and specifically the dozy power crazy bint that does it down the road from me. Two children walking with another two 50 yds behind. Does them individually as they arrive. The record that I have seen is just two cars managing to escape through this middle-aged flourescent chicane.

I thought so too. Our local one lets any fool across and holds up the traffic into the roadworks to do it too. Our other one is 'pimp Lolly' and looks like a hooker, but lets nobody across, just sits on the adjacent pub wall with a fag on the go. Perhaps she is a hooker catering for a different client group? Kids down her way are more likely to have the wheels of your car if you slow down than be knocked over by them.

I understand the law has an exemption that allows lollypop ladies to be run over between December 1st (so called the 'opening of tabbard season') and when the schools break up for Christmas. This 'cull' is designed to make sure only the LPL's at the top of their game survive to provide protection during the dark nights.

Happy Hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So glad to hear I'm not the only one with an "opinion" about them - thanks for all the info - maybe next time she stops me to cross all and sundry, I might wind down my window and tell her politely that they don't look like schoolchildren!
