Help !!!!! LeMans Newbie ! ! totally lost !!!!!!

Me and a pal have decided to go to le mans this year in my lotus 7 kitcar.
Getting to france is sorted but what do we have to book , who with etc .........
Bare in mind this is my first lemans outing so please detail who to contact what to ask for yada yada ...

Well, you've left it too bloody late for next year already unless you are really lucky. Most camping is sold out now. maybe someone else on here can help you with tickets but you usually need to start planning in August/September for the next years race!!

Get your ferry booked quick too!!

If you do manage to get there you will have the best weekend of your life!!

They sorted me out this year and for next year.
You will need a general admission ticket each if you wanna wander about.
You might struggle to get a camp place though. Contact them asap cos when I booked mine 2 weeks ago they were pretty well sold out then .
Plan to arrive on the thursday. Have a thrash on the track on friday. Mega party friday night, saturday night etc etc etc.

Fully agree with all the above. E-mail, phone, fax, carrier pigeon www.justtickets.co.uk ASAP. I spoke to 'em yesterday (weds 19th) and they told me they had 18 tickets left and were taking bookings for next year already ! I would say don't panic about getting the admission tickets as you can always pick them up down there, they still seem to be on sale with 2hrs of the race left to go. You will have a fantastic time though. Just make sure you get there for Friday (All day) it is fantastic round the circuit. Plenty of cars and antics to make you look forward to the 2004 race.

Do you have to camp there, or can you just sleep in your car in the carpark? I would have thought sleeping at a 24hr race is the last thing you'd want to do

Depends how long your trip is, one night kipping in the car may be bearable, but if your planning to go for longer (and you should) then somewhere flat to lie down is good. Bear in mind in can piss down all weekend (or you can roast for 48 hours) and you'll get bored of eye spy in the car park quite quickly.

Make the effort though. It is worth it. Be prepared to keep coming back though.

That's ok if you get there Saturday Morning and leave on Sunday night, did it like that one year when we went by coach (never again, I was between cars) but not if you get there on Thursday and leave on Monday

The more years we go the less racing we see, last year we had a PS2 set up and I think I saw more racing on that

Monty. If you're in France at the moment(your profile says the Somme)it might be worth trying some of the local tourist offices to see if any of them have camping tickets. Being a "local" you might be able to get a few dozen ! I'm sure in months to come a lot of people would be your best friend suddenly if you had loads of 'em. Should pay for your weekends beer ration at least !
Going in a 7 kit I would say take as little as poss (clothes only) and buy everything else (tent, chairs BBQ, pans etc) cheaply in the Carrefour when you get there. Just get there early, Thurs latest, or the good stuff'll be gone already. But I'm sure other 7 owners could advise you better, there's always loads of 'em go. The bigger the car the more stuff you take and never use in my experience.

Thanks for all your advice. I do live in france so crossing the channel is one problem solved. One annoying thing is that on the friday morning I have to be somewhere till noon. So getting there thursday is out and maybe even buying tents etc at the carrefour.

Be brutal , am i shagged or am i still in with a chance ??

Yeh go for it, just turn up when you can, find a PH party (a bit like an S Club Party but with more beer) and sleep where you fall

I've gone last minute before and it's not so bad.
Camped outside the track (lots of munical campsites) about 15mins drive.
Drove in on the Saturday around 12 o'clock, drove right into the circuit, parked outside the ticket office (20 minutes parking there = no problem), then parked up in a car park that was within 100m of the ticket office - cost was ummm, about 20Euros I think. Left the car there, walked into circuit - stayed and watched, drank etc. until about 5am - then picked up the car and headed off to the campsite.
