Can anyone recommend any DH TV type sites, which give proper reviews and professional opinions on all models. The more sites the merrier - trawling google trying to find a good set takes ages

I take it you mean HDTV?

Doubt there will be many reviews yet given that any test isnt testing the Sky signal quality as its not being broadcast yet.

I've got one.

On review, I came to realise it's (currently) a waste of money.

Hope that helps.

Id still like to check the review sites - but why is it a waste of money? (Id like one to take advantage of HD output (gaming)) but... Ive heard people saying they make normal broadcasts look over pixxelated. Is this true, how does that work?

Very little content for a good few years. Don't forget that you'll get no benefit from your current DVD player and discs - it will look the same as a non-HD picture. And there's currently a kerfuffle going on about which format will define the next wave of DVD players. I'd wait until the dust has settled on that one, IMHO. When you say "take advantage of....gaming..." do yo mean Xbox 360? MS recently announced that they won't be supporting HD output for games - you'll probably get movie clips on the game discs that are HDTV output, but not the actual game itself. Not sure if this is still true - I'd look into it a bit more (or maybe someone else can enlighten us?).

There are optimised progressive DVD's for computer use only.

Still the easiest way in is a monitor.

It will be a while but once it goes it will go bigtime.

And then the TVs will be a lot cheaper.

All good things and all that....

Sky should be going live early next year and they will broadcast football in HD. Also, BBC has been producing in HD for the last few years so Sky will probably pick some of these programs up.

As for the different standards, people are probably thinking about DVD's which have blu-ray (Sony etc) and HD-DVD (Toshiba), I think blu-ray will win as the PS3 will support it and they will get loads sold so it will already be established but I'm going to hold back for a year or so.

HDTV broadcasts will need a set top box which will connect by component or HDMI. I think Sky are looking at HDMI for their boxes.

Was thinking about getting one of these myself.

Looks like the best option is to hold fire for a year or so until standards are established, content is available and the prices drop.

lot of hype with the new HDTV i'd rather take advantage of cheap plasma/LCD now when it wears out in 5-10 years, i'll ship in HDTV stuff that will be as cheap as Plasma/LCD is now im sure its all relative

saw an LG in Comet the other day - 32" widescreen with a resolution of 1380*800 or something. Nearer bough the 'ucker it was so nice. Seriously sharp, crispy and incredibly well defined. It stood out against every other screen in a very big way.

I'm pretty sure that isn;t true, all Xbox 360 games will be HD. I had a source but I can't find it now, amazon or gamespot I think.

As for everything else it depends on how future-proof you want your TV to be, I just bought one and intend it to be my main TV for many years, therefore got one that was HD compatible.

Xbox 360 is HD (fact)

Im only after a 26inch TV, and would rather buy an HDTV now and enjoy it (and the xbox, and new surround sound system ) than spend forever waiting.

It doesnt matter which format of DVD drive wins, you'll be able to enjoy any/all of them if you have the right connectors round the back. I believe. I just feel sorry for the old people, who'se pensions dont allow them to buy stamps at increasing prices, forget the new gadgetry upgrades everyone else gets to enjoy.
