Advertising on telly
Discussion
Depends on the time & channel. IIRC a 30 second advert in the middle of Corronation St could set you back about £25K. An advert on Sky Travel at 3am would of course be a lot less, probably only a few grand.
The thing to remember with advertising is that the rates they ask for are not the rates anyone pays. If you are willing to negotiate then you'll usually get a large percentage off, especially if you can provide repeat business. All TV stations, magazines, newspapers, etc are desperate for advertisers.
Unfortunately my subscription to BRAD has expired otherwise I'd be able to give you exact figures.

We had a 400 tvr (television ratings) campaign costed out at something like £450,000, which included 20 slots at peak time ITV1. That was full whack, mind - as said no one ever pays full price!
Advert using people can be shot from anywhere upwards of £10k if you know decent people who don't work in the South East!

The company I work for survives on TV advertising each year and equates to about £2MILLION/DAY in ad revenue. The cost of 1 advert can vary hugely as said by others depending on the platforms you want it put accross, which channel against what programme and at what time of day/week/year and also depends on how the advertising market is generally as it is very volatile. Your best bet is to contact advertising agencies first.

Afternoon all!
Can anyone tell me roughly how much it would cost to put together and run a 30 second advert on TV?
I can help here.
TV advertising purchasing is complex - as is the creation of the adverts. I know becuase I have made a few in my time.
Production costs for the advert vary widely - from a couple of k for a very simple "Chatback" type late night ad, to a million or so for a major world-wide campaign ad. The recent Guinness and Bailey's Zero G bar ones were between £500,000 and a million each.
In the UK, advertisers tend to purchase blocks of slots - and deals are done on cost. The adverts are shown regionally or nationally - you pay a certain amount per region dependetn upon population and demographics. "Narrowcasting" is the term given to programmes which appeal to very specific sectors of the ppopulation - ie it would cost more to advertise a BMW during a programme that would appeal to it's customer base than it would during a show for the chavs...
To give you an idea of cost - prime time on Carlton (7-10pm) on a weeknight could be up to £160k per showing per 60 secs. Most adverts are 30 secs long - so 80k per showing. This will be heavily discounted when a bulk deal is done.
To show a short ad during the small hours on Anglia could work out at £100 or less if you book a lot.
Bottom line is - it is generally very expensive in the UK - which is why you don't get local businesses advertising like they do in the US.
Hope that is of interest and helps.
