I could have written this article as a parody of the kind of joyless leftie that is Johann Hari.

(I couldn't get his site to open in Firefox)

Little Britain is crap IMO.

Mildly amusing in places at best.

Who is Johann Hari and why should I care about what he thinks?

Actually, the computer says no bit is a genuinely funny bit.

Credit where it's due.

I see amongst his rantings he attacks the show for making fun of people who are gay, or fat..

Matt Lucas...

He writes for the Independent so it follows that he spends most of his time whinging.

As for this particular rant - it seems to me that in dismissing the comedy as it doesn't appeal to his highbrow tastes, he has forgotten to laugh.

until you read the article and get the point of the thread, I will believe that you are Johann Hari.

Have to say I pretty much agree with the whole article. Apart from saying Victoria Wood is a great comedian.

If I hadn't been told, I'd have assumed he was taking the piss. What a tt. And why doesn't he spring to the defence of emetic, racist WI members or recorder playing, riddle obsessed, scottish hoteliers? Are they less plausible characters than a rubber clad, gay welsh narcicist and therefore in no need of defence??? What does that tell us about Hari's own prejudices?

what a load of claptrap - he's selectively taken bits of it to pursue his own agenda. let me disect some of them...

"Victoria Wood (a genuinely great comedian) was right to recently dub Little Britain very misogynistic. Dozens of sketches hinge upon the ugliness of female flesh..." - there are plenty of fat blokes in Little Britain - so it's hardly misogynistic - anyway, Fat Fighters is not laughing at fat people, its laughing at people wh orun so-called 'help groups'.

'A typical recurring theme on the Little Britain discussion boards is the hilarity of poor people wearing fake designer clothes.' -
well if they can afford so-called designer clothes, then they are not poor, they just have sh*te taste. [btw, i work in an investment bank and i get 90% of my clothes from ASDA where proper poor folk get their clothes]

'Imagine a comedy where a British Asian wearing a sari, or naming their child Apu or Karim or Gita, was the joke and the punchline.'
eh? i don't even get the point he's trying to make here - i think he's the one being racist himself - if Apu/Gita/Karim is a genuine asian-chav name, then it would be ing hilarious - i doubt he's done any research into this at all...

'We look back on Jim Davidson blacking up as a head-scratching, imbecile black man with horror. But why is a public schoolboy dressing up as a head-scratching, imbecile single mother any better?' 1) some of Jim Davidson's stuff was funny, some of it was offensive 2) notice the irony of his statement, making a dig at public schoolboy's.

'Look at Vicky Pollard, the thieving, scrounging single mum who swaps her baby for a Westlife CD. She is a walking, smoking Richard Littlejohn column...' - no, i think everyone can find an example in a sink estate near them - if not i'm happy to point out some fine specimens round the Kingston area.

...and i could go on and on
