A little while ago, about a month infact, I sustained a very hard blow to the front of my forehead. I didn't loose conciousness, I did see stars and for a while my vision was blurred, I had an odd nose bleed of a sort in that the blood was running down the back of my throat but it wasn't coming from my nostrils ( so maybe it was from my sinuses?).

Anyway I went to the local casualty and got patched up but not x-rayed. Since then I've noticed that I don't seem to sleep that well, I seem a bit grumpier than I used to be and I seem to be getting a few headaches, I've got one right now. I don't have a history of headaches at all.

I don't think that I could have fractured my skull, as it was a blow agaist my head, rather than me falling and hitting my head. But I was just wondering are these typical symptoms, and do they wear off eventually? What exactly happens when you give your frontal lobes a good old whack?

You mean, "I hit myself in the head with an axe and now am worried that I may have some long lasting side affects, apart from being stupid enough to hit myself in the head with an axe"

you need to see a doctor. surely there is no way you are going to be diagnosed with a fractured skull on PH.
