Ive never actually owned a surround sound setup before, and I finally bought an amp and 6 speakers this weekend, 500 watts RMS all round! Its brilliant, I only wish I'd bought it sooner They have been out what... 20 years now (or more)?

I suppose all DVD's come in 5.1 these days? Any recommendations for flicks which absolutely must be watched in surround sound?

LOL @ Debbie. It'll be coming in your ears that one.

War of the worlds will get your windows shaking.
First 15 mins are very entertaining then it all goes to shit.

Bit like a real alien invasion really.

"All you ever look for" by Kate Bush is pretty impressive on a good old-fashioned simple Hafler surround setup.

Depends if you're gonna watch the original 70's one or the remake of 2001. 2001 is less cringy (ahh my misspent Uni days of last year - 20 people all watching the same *films* with popcorn and pizza. Sounds bizarre but it was team bonding at its very best :P)

First Matrix film

Lobby scene (27 I think)- on a good system you can even hear the brass shell casings falling onto the marble during the gunfire

Crank it up to half

Knock your friends and family off the sofa

Job done

Most definitely

Another question for everyone - where is your sub? I debated putting it behind the couch or even under the couch so you could feel it more, but it probably sounds best near the screen.

Whatever you audition make sure you go through the DVD menu and select Dolby digital 5.1, or even better DTS 5.1 if the DVD allows it. DTS (Digital Theatre Sound) is a lot better than Dolby Digital 5.1.

Enjoy ! , you'll never look back now!
