What is this and how does it differ from normal satnav. It's mentioned on the new Pug ad.

It's a Smart car with an autopilot that navigates you with a rope.

Its a Trafficmaster system. You have a button on the steering column, you press it and the car connects to a call centre. You tell the person in the call centre where you want to go. They send a signal to the car, and a little voice in the car then gives you directions.

It can also re-route you depending upon traffic conditions.

Its quite clever, although the lack of a display can be confusing when you miss your turning in a busy area.

Aye...I can't see how you can manage without a display.

I've got TomTom on a PDA and a built-in system and there are times when only a screen can solve an ambiguous instruction....

Turn slightly right......

Wha.....??

how long is the rope? I am just thinking in case the traffic lights turn red , and the blooming thing in front has beaten the lights already! LOL

There is now an optional display to solve this problem, £200 IIRC.

better off getting tom tom , smart nav is a box with a sim card inside , you also have a button , speaker and microphone GPS/GSM ariel , you press the button and it dials the call centre and you give them details of your destination , they then send the route to your vehicle via SMS and thats it off you go , i was testing it a few years ago and it told me to do a u turn on the m25 , i still thinks its crap , but they may have improved it over the years , i will still stick with my Alpine though , you gets what you pay for .
