Who moves from 111R to exige S2?
Discussion
Because I want to do more track days, I am thinking about upgrading my 111R to settings, wheel and tyres of the Exige. But my car is from june and it may make sense to "exchange" and spend the money for a new exige with sportpack. I will loose the "convertible" type but dealer said that most exige owners are buying the soft top...
Could you help me to see the plus and minus of the change?
Thanks

The upgrade of the R is 6000 euros and the exange (move to exige, soft top , tax , options included) is 11000 euros. But I expect the exige to keep is value while the elise will become a more focused car and will at my eyes loose some value. The difference is not so big and this is why I post this.
Rumour has it that a "new" Exige may be making an appearance sometime towards the end of 2006. Flared wheel arches and ducting on the arches, possibly onto the disks.
From the description I was given, sounds are far more aggressive looking car. Will hang on to see what it looks like before I decide to move up from the 111R or not

£5000 euros is still a lot of money and I doubt you'll lose that in depreciation, there would be enough potential owners out there that would go for the suspension/tyres - it's that sort of car. The Exige is more focussed from day one and arguably already has a more narrow appeal. Also depends on how long you'll be keeping the car for.

I think if I had more time (i.e. no demanding family
) then I'd have gone for the Exige because I'd most certainly be spending lots of time on the track which is where it's performance edge would show through...
I do have the family hence I spend more time going to Tesco's therefore the Elise (with the added open top experience and cheaper tyres) makes better sense for me...
I'd wait a few years - enjoy the R for now as it's new this year (for you) and upgrade in a couple of years when they will replace the S2.

Thanks Guys for your answers.
Making all the maths and futures perspectives, I will keep my 111R and probably in the spring upgrade tyres (A048), wheels and fit Olhins.
On last track day, a friend touched the wall rear then front because his A048 were cold
... He said that it was more the temperature that the dampness which was making the difference between huge grip and no grip... Do you agree?

As to aerodynamics, would guess it would make some difference, but not unless you are doing crazy speeds e.g. over 100mph and that in reality should be on a track, where you can put the hard top back on in preperation for.
The conversion to a soft top, just requires the hard top being taken off and 4 whole made in the front and back of the roof supports to take the plastic cross members that come with the soft top. The hard top can still be put back on at any time
My understanding is that in excess of 50% of new Exige orders are being made with the Soft top being requested as an extra.
However the Hard top Water ingress warrarnty in void if you do do this. And Lotus are also oppossed to it and have told their Dealers to under no circumstances demonstrate it.
