Try this:

www.elises.co.uk/components/s2/engine/oil/

Here is what it says and pretty much covers it:

S2 Oil
After running in, a good synthetic oil is recommended. The handbook recommends Mobil 1 Motorsport or Castrol Formula RS oils. Places like Halfords stock the regular (0W40) Mobil 1 but not the Motorsport (15W50) stuff (recommended). The 0W40 is good for normal road use but for track days the 15W50 is better. Unless the car is used frequently on the track, there is little benefit from changing the oil more regularly that stated in the service book.

I would use the 15w50 stuff. Stops the engine sounding so rough!

A 15W won't offer the cold start (when most wear occurs) protection of a 0W so unless you're tracking it regularly, I'd use 0W 40.

Back to Halfords.
Interested in the quiet option though.. Does it really make it sound less rough?

Because it's thicker, it'll quieten things down a bit I suppose. I'd still go for the cold cranking protection of a 0W over the 15W - that thickness means it takes longer to get around and do it's job on startup. If you have a sports zorst, I doubt you'll notice the difference and you obviously don't care about it sounding a bit rough.

Next year, track it!

No sports exhuast (long Larini story), but my neighbours would like the diesel clatter lowered in the mornings..

I did an airfield day in it, just worried on a Track but yes next year!

Talking of scared, nailed the R out of a bend this morning and felt the back slip away - road not quite dry! Happened real quick as well but regained the grip...

If it doesn't do that in the wet you are not trying hard enough! First time it happened I nearly soiled my shorts. Thought I had hit OIL or something. After a couple of Walshy days I am beginning to (selectively) enjoy the experience.

SJA - what oil did you get at Halfords in the end.

Have a chat to Simon at Opie Oils.

They do a full range for every type of engine and driving and deliver it pretty cheap.

Link here to the current offer he has on Seloc

I'll use castrol 10w60 in my car when I change the oil next time. I am not planning to go to the track very often, but I tend to have a heavy right foot And this is the only oil that hasn't let me down yet.
