With me it's Virgin and BA, but of the two Virgin. Despite being a little cheaper, I've never found the US companies that good. So what's the PH opinion.

I tend to travel first (upper) on my own or business (premium economy) with my family.

There's a reason for asking, which I'll explain when (if) I get a few replies. It will settle an argument with the wife.

Without flying through London (which is a real pain in the a$$), we either have to go with Aer Lingus, Delta, Continental or U.S. Airways. None of which use jumbos, which makes them a real pain in the a$$ too. Awful little things.

Next time, and I've said this a few times now, it's a Virgin jumbo to Vegas.

Of the ones we have used (BA, American, another US Based one can't remember, KLM/northwest) We would have always gone KLM until they got taken over by Air France, but will probably use again. Always Cattle class btw.

Aer Fungus. Scotland to LA change planes at Dublin with only a two-hour wait and a quick check by US Immigration. Arrive LAX, walk straight through and home.

One quick Limo ride and I'm as good as home.

That reminds me, LA. Years ago I was driving across Ireland to Galway on business. Well, I managed to get lost and saw a chap walking down the road so I stopped and ask him for directions. "Do you know the road to Galway", I asked. "Why do you ask?" he said, "I need to go there". I replied. To which he said, "no you don't want to go there, there's much nicer places to visit!"

I drove off!

united are ok. delta were awful. ba were pretty nice. continental were nice.

all much of a muchness, apart from delta who are absolutely awful. at the end of the day, its a cylinder that flies through the air while i'm sleeping with noise cancelling headphones.

Virgin - no contest. I wouldn't choose anyone else for my 20+ transatlantic flights annually.

I flew Quantas last week (admittedly not transatlantic ) and the difference in capability of the cabin staff compared to Virgin was very noticeable. Not bad, just worse.

If I got to choose it would be BA as first choice and Virgin second, because I think that BA gets unofficial priority at Heathrow and you spend less time in hold. But I don't get to choose so I fly American. American First is almost as good as BA club, but the staff aren't as good.

Delta - Crap
United - OK
BA - Good
Virgin - Good
US Airways - I`d rather remove my own testicles with a blunt chainsaw. Never Again.
Aer Lingus - Good

All depends on where you sit in cattle class.

I flew Virgin Nigeria (??!!) back from China - bloody awful. Crew were a laugh though.

whether club or wooden seat class, Swissair used to be the best, now Swiss is just ordinary
BA ordinary
Virgin, not flown
any US carrier, cheap and nasty and mediocre service
Air France, arrogant and so-called good (who are you kidding?) food
KLM used to be excellent (but not flown them for 7 years)

BEST Air Canada (friendly and good food and drink) and after that Lufthansa (can be coldly efficient!)

All IMHO of course......
