Got caught, Kojack was hiding in the bushes with his pro laser. My laser alarm went crazy but I thought it was a false alarm and slowed a little. I am so stupid, I have only had one false alarm and that was a military jet lasering me. I am so bl00dy angry.
The whole thing went badly.
cop; Do you have any form of ID
me; No
cop; Do you have your car documents?
me; No
cop; Well you will have to produce your docs.
me; Why?
cop; So we know you have a licence and insurance.
me; You have just called for car and ID details, call again and ask them to check the insurance db and licence db.
Cop; The database isnt always reliable.
me; So you are wasting my time because you cant administer a db? How do you know the db details regarding my ID info is up to date? You seem to trust what that says, even though I just gave you a different name (changed when I got married!) Is this part of the proceedure, to waste as much of my time as possible?
cop; I dont think this is the right attitude?
(I lost my temper a little)
me; You want to waste my time, put points on my licence that has been clean for years, take £60 for the fun of it and you want me to be nice while you do it? Are you mad because if I wasnt questioning the validity of your conception, I am now.
(it all went a little down hill and he started doing outstanding warrant checks)
I am in a bit of a bad mood!

Don`t blame you mate, had a chat with a friend of mine on Friday, he is a very nice policeman, honest, and apparently speed scams don`t have to painted , and they don`t require to be made visible either, ie- 200 yrds. So its again a case of watch yourself when out driving. Must admit though, that being aggressive towards Mr Plod is a very silly thing to do....You now the routine goes like- yes sir sorry sir, and can i say how charming you are tonight ! Your attitude probably made his little day.Take it on the chin however pi55ed off you are and in future be polite.

You are totally right, but there was no way I was getting away with it. He was saying the most stupid things. Decided to question me about the car. Is it front wheel drive? No, Why isnt it green, arent all lotus green? Um...No..
Self rightous pr!ck. Kept on asking me if I had points on my licence. 3 or 4 times, wouldnt believe that I had no points. Then he said "you must have had points!". He really wanted to be the one to finish my licence.

Really sorry mate, he sounds like a knob jockey.
Not that it makes any difference now but the laser guns are the bastards because once the detector beeps at you the gun has got its reading so even if you had slowed right down he would still have his cash.
That bit of road is a favorite of theirs and i cant see how it can be an accident black spot, its just a cash pot as you get all the rich boys in their exitoca flying down from sandbanks plus all of the chain ferry traffic floods.
What speed did he get you at? Was it dark? (i didnt think they could operate in the dark)

Sorry to hear this... I have points which were all as a result of speeding on a dual. And yet theres no Police in town where the Saxos cruise through at 40 past old people and children. There is NEVER any Police outside of my daughters School which is situated on a busy road - nearly every other car is breaking the speed limit...
Also (as you say) whats the point in them not being clearly seen - if you see a cop, you will slow up and avoid any potential accident.
The only anti-speeding devices I see in the important areas (basically all 30mph limits) are mostly the pathetic things which flash up the speed limit or a picture of a camera - ecerybody ignores them...

This is a usefull thread, includes links to full info on the gun and a site with advice for people caught speeding and your options.

" Garage door opener " ? Have seen them mentioned but apart from the obvious, what is it ?
My next purchase!!
You can purchase a system that sends out more or less the same signal as the laser "speed gun". This signal stops the police laser range finder from being able to "lock on" to your car by bombarding the unit with erroneus signals. It is always on and is very effective. They buy you 10-15 seconds to slow down before the speed gun can establish a reading. Unfortunatly these are illegal and the police will take great umbridge to you having one.
What is legal is a "laser Garage door opener". A laser diode mounted on the car sends a signal which is recieved by reciever on the garage and opens the garage door. The benifit is that a laser garage door opener does exactly what a laser diffuser does and the garage door opener is completly legal.
The problem is both systems are VERY expensive, 400 quid plus and to be completly effective, you need 2, one for the rear and one for the front. Personally I am just going to get one for the front and hide it behind the grill then integrate it into my b2.
Aah, thought it was along those lines, thanks for the info. Yet another tool in the fight for the right to drive safely, well most of the time ! I drove home today through a 30mph zone, mind on work, couldn't even remember traveling along that part of the road, let alone who was about. Quite worrying really ...Thank god for the road angel.

My understanding is that the 'garage door opener' diode sends a much wider scatter and thus when you're targeted by another lazer this has the effect of laser-chaff. Rather like two positive terminals on a battery 2 laser beams hitting each other kind of repel and thus it prevents the laser signal getting a lock. Is that correct? (got my geek mode on and like knowing about this kind of stuff).
The mounting point is generally hidden just by the number plate as that's the point at which speed guns are pointed.
What I do know is that either system is illegal if found to be hooked up to a laser detector, and if they can prove you've used it to 'jam' their gun you can be done for perverting the course of justice which carries a heftier penalty than speeding (IIRC). One thing I've never heard though is any testimony from a traffic BiB who has actually been thwarted by one, or indeed found one on someone's car. That would be interesting. A guy I know works for the local constabulary's traffic division - will have to ask him next time I see him.
I do love the idea of them though.... so Smokey & the Bandit or Dukes of Hazzard!

Correct. The laser speed gun times the reflection signal from your car. If there are a load of signals bouncing around then it doesnt know which one is its reflection signal and therefore can not derive actual speed of vehicle.
To proove that you were using the "Garage door opener" to subvert the cuse of justice, they would have to prove intent.
Any arguement they have could be quickly disolved by actually using the opener to open a garage door. This is easy for me as I have an powered garage door, I will just go the extra and make sure it works. The problem is that I reverse into the garage, so I can justify having 2 emitters, one front one back.
You can also justify wiring it into your detector, I would just say it is to stop getting false signals.
That may be a problem as the laser wil be reflected off road signs etc.
There has been a post recently on either here or SELOC about people jamming Laser speed traps.
Seems that there is now a Database which the authorities use to record vehicles which fail to give a reading. Any vehicle that shows up twice then has a visit from the BiB.
The story went that a search warrant was issued and the car was inspected, found to have a Jammer of some variety and the car was impounded and the Owner issues with a summons for Perverting the course of justice.
Upto you want you want to do, but given the above, seems a bit risky

The whole point is that it isnt a jammer, it is a garage door opener. The court case would be interesting. My solicitor would point out that it is a garage door opener and proove it by showing the garage in operation then counter sue for upset caused by an unnecesary visit to court and the associated stress.
Yes I am in a bad mood!
dude i'm really gutted for you, i just installed my B2 in the surf wagon and got a bit carried away on the wessex way the other night, sneaky copper was hidden at the asda round about behind the armco, didnt see him till the last minute but fortunately he had obviously just been given another call as he pulled out right in front of me and drove off!!
i think you've got a deffo option with the door opener, at least you can justify it! i think it's a worthwhile investment when you do a lot of spirited driving like you do!
bloody cash making scamera ar** holes

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Gooby.
They're a bunch of miserable b4stards aren't they!
Over the last 2 days we've been down to Buckfastleigh in Devon, Exeter, Bristol and back to Bournemouth - and the Only place we saw any mobile tw4ts, I mean TRAPS was when we were nearly back on our doorstep driving along Sandbanks road this morning at 10.30am, and we've been past plenty of blackspots on the way.
It goes to show they're definitely cashing in on the local toffs.

kojack LOL
I’m sorry to hear about this, My respect for the law is falling rapidly the more the police get pedantic about silly things and fail to solve the real problems. Just for kicks here’s some instances in my life: a) my mate who was attacked with a knife – the guy gets a £50 fine, my mate has a scar for the rest of his life. b). another mate had his car smashed into by an uninsured drug dealer well known to the police – he looses out £1200 as nothing gets done about it. c)…I could go on but what’s the point….
I too have seen "kojack" hiding in a bush on the A11 a couple of times though.
www.pepipoo.co.uk is you’re friend!
On the (completely unrelated) garage door subject: When I (fingers crossed) buy a house in a year or so ill be making sure I have a garage for the car and for the garage door opener. I mean is there any excuse in this technological age for not having an automatic garage door opener for your pride and joy ???
