It's more to do with having little weight and so able to get off the line quickly, like a scooter, quick off the mark but soon hauled in, give that vette a another 100m or so and the kart would be toast

a gixxer cart OTOH

Check out serve it up website.

His 600bhp Blown SB in his 240z is the nuts. www.darius240z.com/gallery.php

Ooohh and the Kart is not a NORMAL KART - it has a Ducati 748 engine in it - all on the site.

These guys Rock - you have to see his Girlfriend!

A Duke748 engine...what a complete waste of time. They´re crap in a bike let alone on a kart.

I think its more that F1 drivers on the whole love karts and many use them for training. They're the only thing that gets close to F1 for reaction speeds... (2 strokes though, of course).

What an unnecessary, uninformed, and offensive comment !
I've had my '98 748 SPS from new (over 7 years) and it's far from crap. It consistently had rave reviews in the bike press and beat the 600's it was designed to go against. I've had loads of hot Jap bikes, all of them damned fine bikes, but my SPS is the nicest bike I've ever had, maybe not the fastest but still a stunning all round machine with a great engine.
As for being a waste of time - watch the video - the kart easily beats a C5 Vette, and sounds the business whilst doing it - not what most people would call a "complete waste of time".

But you were probably thinking it was beating that C5 (think it is a Z06) with a 125cc Kart!

I have some other pics of it it - it is nuts. Alot easier to kit in a kart than a 4.

Er no not uninformed at all. Been into bikes all my life and have always had them and always will. Always liked the looks of the 748 and 916 but would never own one due to experiences of others. Dukes = unreliable. Ride it hard and you will get problems (known for engine probs, clutch probs and oh yeah buckled wheels if landed hard from a wheelie and of course the famous Italian electrics - all been in the press and known to me by friends)... FACT. I know people that have and have had problems. .....and yes I have riden a 748 as well. Now imagine what the Gixer kart would do to a vette .. posted by Eric the Brave a while back.

Blah blah (see above)

So, it's not just the engine that's crap, now it's my whole bike thats st is it ? What a charmer you are ! The fact that you only saw fit to respond to the "uninformed" accusation, whilst clearly not caring a toss about any offence your useless comment may have caused, says it all really : does your ego have it's own post code ? A simple sorry mate, didn't mean to offend might have been nice, but not from the likes of you eh?
So you've been in to bikes all your life etc. etc. - big fg deal - so have I, and I'm older than you - but so what? It doesn't make either of us the oracle of motorcycling. Frankly, now that I know what sort of opinionated person you are, I don't give a fk what you think of either of my bikes. The 748 is not without minor foibles, but to describe it as crap is way out of order. I speak from having owned a 748 for over 7 years, that's owned - not had a go on, read about, or was told about - but actually owned, and don't presume to know how hard I ride it. To most intelligent people that means I am in a more informed position about 748's than you are : "FACT". I doubt you'll be able to accept that anyone could possibly know more about anything than you do, but I don't care. You have your opinion about one of my bikes, I certainly have my opinion of yours - the difference is I'm not so ignorant as to spout off and offend other GSXR owners for no reason - offending you wouldn't be a problem after your remarks, but not others.
Sorry for the hijack guys, rant over.

A 250cc superkart will lap some circuits faster than an F3 car with speeds in excess of 140mph depending on the circuit, gearing etc.

Yup, 250 International (Rotax twin) was quick. At the Kart Grand Prix in the 80's at Silverstone mine lapped 2 seconds quicker than the 500cc lap record of the time. Same as bike circuit (no little Woodcote chicane) so a good direct comparison.

Enormous power to weight ratio (I was only 10 stone then!!!). Top end was about 165 in long circuit trim (gears exhaust etc), accelleration was blinding but the real difference was virtually no slowing down for corners. Silverstone is soooo wide in a Kart.

Still prefer a Vette for road use tho.... Horses for courses guys.... no aircon or lecky seats in Karts if I remember correctly.

Er no.

My original point was that if you are going to the trouble of putting a bike engine in a kart then why choose a 748 engine? As much as this appears to upset you, there are better, lighter, more powerful and more reliable engines out there that are also going to be cheaper.

As for the last post you can slag my bike as much as you want. It's not the best bike I've had and to be honest I've always regretted swapping in my Kawasaki for it. As for the 748 comments, 2 guys I regularly ride with HAD 748's - that's where my opinions come from.

Sorry for any offence but you really are over reacting a little dont ya think?

Gixer,
Apology accepted. I may have over-reacted a little, but my passion for my Ducati is possibly even greater than that for my Vette. In truth, the SPS does have significant improvements in most areas over a Bip, so a Bip may be more fragile. True, it’s not the fastest or most reliable bike in the world, (although I haven’t had any real problems at all, much better after the Texas Pacific takeover though – as mine is) but that’s not the point. I liken my SPS to say a Lambo – apart from being Italian – it’s not the fastest or the most reliable, like a torture rack to ride in town, and some bills can bring tears to your eyes, but in my book it is the best looking bike ever built, it handles and goes well enough to be real fun, and it has real character – it feels special. I recently thought about selling everything to buy my ultimate dream car – a Lambo Countach (thinking about it again now in fact) – everything that is except my Duke – I’ll never part with that. So yes, I do get a bit passionate – but lets be fair, you aren’t being entirely honest here : what you said was the 748 engine is crap in a bike and a waste of time in a kart. Had you said that there are lighter, cheaper, more powerful engines he could have used, then yes – I totally agree with that. I’m not so stupid as to think the Duke is the hottest thing out – I know and readily accept that it’s not, but I will never accept that a 748 is crap, and in SPS guise it’s still my very favourite bike of all time. Anyway, I’m happy to forget about this little disagreement and move on, I always prefer to make friends rather than enemies.

Always wanted to try the 250 rotax, In my day the 250's were Yamaha TD3's. Mosty of my competition stuff was in 100cc class. I tried these fun karts a couple of times but god they are heavy and uncomfortable! Or is that just an age thing!!!!
