I have just moved into a new house and the smell of cigarette smoke in the main room is choking us!

Any ideas of getting rid of smell. So far we have bought lots of Air Freshners (plug-ins/stand alones etc) Opened all windows etc.

Gonna give the carpet a shampoo with the Bizell.

Any other ideas please... desperate.

Cheers

There's a febreeze thingy that claims to remove smoke smells from fabric. Some mates of mine use it and it seems to work.

Might be worth considering a quick splash of paint ,if its as bad as it sounds then you will be surprised of how yellow the ceiling is when you paint it.
I would be tempted to go mad with a brush for a day or two, paint is a great smell equaliser.

when my grandparents moved into their last house the walls and floors where dark orange. not nice at all. it took replacing the carpits as it does not not get the smell out when u just vax the carpets. also you can buy stuff at B&Q to clean walls and celings to remove the tar and them paint over.

once thats done you will never have any problems

Lots of interesting ideas!

Damn about the Vinegar one though, I just poored out a load of the stuff (Red & White cooking stuff) before we moved.

Yes the walls and ceiling are yellow! a nice outline of pictures that where hanging on the walls

Lots of painting to do, hopefully the Bizell will get some of the smell out the carpet's, but I feel it is mainly in the walls and ceiling.

Must get Vinegar today

You'll want to gove the walls a really good clean before you paint as the stains can leech through waterbased paint as I discovered to my expense a few years ago!

No worries, I'll be doing this. Sugar Soap at the ready....(well if I can find it in the 100,000,000,000 billion boxes we have full of stuff)
